Playing vanilla Revolutions, the Grand Campaign scenario as Serbia. Thought I'd share my experiences from this game.
Brief summary of what I've done so far (prior to the Crimean war).
- Split POPs for more efficiency
- Converted a farmer to clergy for more research points
- Researched pretty much only Industrial and Economical techs
- Built railroads in two of the provinces
- Allied with Russia
(Nothing special at all).
Now, we come to 1854 and the Crimean war breaks out. I get the feeling that I'm not strong enough to side with Russia and fight the Ottoman Empire, so I dissolve the alliance with Russia before the war and instead join my master (OE) against Russia. Austria, France, UK and Sweden join our side.
1854:
- Russia quickly make white peace with Wallachia and Moldavia.
- Russian troops make progress in Austria but eventually gets encircled and destroyed.
- The UK lands in Crimea and Russia has troubles keeping them at bay.
- This allows the Ottoman Empire to advance in both fronts into Russia.
Screenshot at the start of the war:
1855:
- Russia makes peace with Sweden gaining four provinces.
- France makes white peace with Russia but sends a lot of expenditionary units to the Ottoman Empire
- Stalemate in Crimea, Austria and the eastern OE-Russian front
- I increase my mobilization pool, bringing my total number of possible units to 5.
- Russia accepts white peace with me
1856:
- Russia slowly retakes some land and pushes the Ottoman Empire back.
- Still stalemate in Austria
- I mobilize my reserves
Screenshot before I deploy my mobilization reserves:
- I declare war on the Ottoman Empire (I'm their sattelite)
- I place all my reserve units (4) in Bor. I keep my regular unit in Belgrad.
- Austria, Wallachia and Moldavia join the OE in their war against me.
- I move my reserve army into Wallachia and defeat their units.
- Austria and the Ottoman Empire quickly take Bor and Kragejevac (sp?)
- Two Austrian units attacks my lone encircled unit in Belgrad.
- That unit keeps the austrians at bay just enough for me to annex Wallachia.
- A few days later Belgrad falls and is occupied by the Ottoman Empire.
- Ottoman troops start to occupy my newly gained provinces in Wallachia.
- I move my reserve army into Moldavia.
- I try to make white peace with the Ottoman Empire.
- To my big surprise, they accept.
Screenshot:
- Now I have no lands occupied by enemies, but I'm still at war with Moldavia and Austria.
- Austria sends a peace offer, offering me 5 provinces!!
- I accept.
- That ends the war for my part, having gained 8 new provinces and now have four times the population I had before the war.
Screenshot after the war:
I'm still speechless because of the luck I had. No cheats ever used nor any modifications to the game.
Those screenshots were all the ones I took. I wish I had taken more so I could've turned it into an AAR or at least have given you more details.
