I did not like a lot of things Paradox did beginning with Rajas of India, and I have avoided ever trying to play again as I see DLC such as Conclave get such scandal

But I read the notes today, and I read this:

---

AI holders of k_france will no longer create k_aquitaine unless they are close to forming Francia

---

Woah. Years have passed waiting for a fix like this. Now 1066 is actually playable!

To me it is a sign that they are listening to the players at an extremely slow pace. Better than not listening at all. I think it is time to try this game again.

ON ANOTHER NOTE:

Back when I played, pre Rajas, it was common to see dynasties fall. Looking at Byzantium, there is a flurry of usurpation. I think it fit history very well. I have heard that is no longer the case, and that dynasties are very stable. Is this true or false?

I'd say it's mostly false. An experienced player can of course retain her throne fairly easily, but AI's tend to rise and fall without player involvement, mostly due to the new "oust liege" faction. In my current game, I've played from 867 to 1289 and the Karlings have lost all their king level titles, sitting on a few counties and maybe one duchy. After the Karlings, France had 3 Capets, 4 d'Anjous, 3 Welfs, and are currently on House Toulouse. In Germany the Babenbergers held the kingdom for ten generation after ousting the Karlings, before losing it to a cadet branch and then going elective. I think it's fairly realistic now but many complain that kingdoms go elective too often.

I really fail to see how him creating Aquitaine was game breaking unless you were actually playing under France or Aquitaine.

Yes it was folly that the AI did it, yes it often screwed France at succession or even before with opinions and factions, yes it caused border gore.

And yes the repeated de-stabilization of a major country based on AI misprogramming was wrong.

But game breaking? It's a big game and I can't count how many times I was in some other corner of the world saw him create Aquitaine and simply shrugged my shoulders knowing it wasn't gonna affect me.

Or playing in Hispania, the HRE or Britain as all are impacted by a weaker France. Then you have players who openly say they only play the same nation every time such as Byz players and it then isn't such a step for someone to see the regular splitting of France in two as game breaking to them.

Well, when combined with the guaranteed DoW by das Blöb (HRE) over Flanders, it tended to make playing in France not a lot of fun. I mean, France, heart of feudalism, in a game about feudalism, should be one of the realms that's fun to play in.

For that reason, if I ever played in France, it was in the 876 bookmark. My first game with RD will be some French (Basque?) Duke in Dec. 1066 bookmark.

It certainly wasn't game-breaking, but given that western to central europe is kind of the "default" game and the power of France is key to the area, it affected a lot of people.
