I can delete a bridge.
I can delete a road.
I can replace roads with bus-lanes.
I can make every road one way.
I can delete peoples homes.
I can delete peoples workplaces.

etc

I can do anything to a city, demolish it, rebuild it, build all sorts of crap, and no one complains!
People should complain for even the most negligible of things, such as lack of roads for motorists (forcing public transport), noisy buses (if too many or very frequent, perhaps noise could be a perk of a certain bus) etc, contraryto the individual and place of work/where they live. For example, middle/upper class residents and business citizens living in villas will be more prone to complain, as apposed lower class.

I strongly disagree here. There is nothing more frustrating than having a bunch of complaints coming in all the time ("Ticket prices are too low/high" is a good example) when you're trying to build or plan your network.

I could see this work if there was a happiness penalty for deleting stuff, but that's about it.

+1 We get away with too much, too easily

The dilemmas in the game aren't being made, and therefore the game lacks a realistic scenario and depth.

I really don't want to be mayor of the town. Their road gets blown up boo hoo complain to city hall. Or move out of the city. I'm already sick and tired of the ticket pricing nagging me to death.

I agree! CIM 1 was in many ways a better game. Money was always a problem until you got your network large enough. You couldn't just do anything you wanted like in CIM2 where you can take out as many loans as you want and the money just keeps flowing in. There are things you shouldn't be able to do like demolish bridges and roads and at least some buildings.

They will complain soon enough if you don't put the roads back again so traffic flows as well or better and your buses and trams get jammed all the time :) Seriously though, municipal authorities change road systems all the time, some people get upset, most people get used to it in the end. They just do it slower than you'd do it in CiM2.

You have a point about demolishing buildings. However, I think there are certain limitations imposed by the engine and the game design, particularly depots, that make doing this essential. You do pay for it, it just doesn't seem you pay that much.

You couldn't demolish roads in CIM1, could you?

On hard I used to take a big loan to build a metro line and some feeders, then I had only to wait for money to flow.
