While browsing around in Denmark yesterday for things on EU2 I found two pages with Cheats, this puzzles me.
Who would put in cheats? Well I know who since only the ones actually developing and programming the game can but why?
Why the H..l put in cheats, I mean 50.K dukats and manpower of 1k is nice but... It exceeds the total population of many of the involved countries and it is ... well, cheating.
I do not get it, what is in it for Paradox?

I use them when I'm exploring how the game mechanics work. If you want to know what will happen in a specific situation you can fire up a 'test' game and use the cheat codes to trigger events and see what happens. :)

I certainly can't speak for Paradox :) but can offer the usual reasons. This sort of backdoor is frequently added for testing purposes, and is generally left the release version for one of two reasons: 1) It's a bad idea to do your testing on one build, but distribute a different one, and/or 2) Game players have come to expect this sort of cheat being available.

yup Definately used during beta testing.
Take the events for instance. It would be very hard to test every event in the game, if you had to play every nation for a complete campaign. This way you can just jump around testing as apropriate.

You did not have to go anywhere but the FAQ forum here to find the cheats.

As has been mentioned: It's used during development and testing. During betatesting we used e.g. the 'robespierre' cheat to check effects of different DP settings, other cheats like 'montezuma' to quickly be able to test annexations, diplomatic moves... just about anything that cost money one way or the other.

Cheats are the sort of like the apple in Eden....will you taste it and seek the forbidden knowledge and power now that you know it is there? :b

In the moment you use cheats, you destroy your whole game experience by yourself and make the game very boring. Counts for me and a lot of other guys i guess... So I don´t have any problem with them. Just don´t use them.:)

I like the availability of cheats for testing. If you want to be able to see exactly when you can place a colonist, or exactly what your infrastructure level affects, or any number of other such things, it's useful to be able to use cheats. If you try to just pick up such things as the game goes along, it can be much harder to isolate the effects of whatever you're looking for, because so many other factors are changing.

The other thing I like cheats for is to periodically see what's going on elsewhere in the world. In particular, come December 1819, I want to see exactly what has happened in the rest of the world that I can't see at the moment. I also like to see what is going on in various places every hundred years or so, both out of curiosity and to get some idea of how the game typically plays out in a given area without player interference.

Wouldn't it be simpler to just conquer the world entire? :D That way you know what's going on everywhere (Big Player is watching you!) and you have the satisfaction of knowing your soul is clean as driven snow. :p

"Wouldn't it be simpler to just conquer the world entire?"

Some people like to play as countries that really aren't in a position to conquer the entire world.

What? A non-european island kingdom, or an american/dark african nation?

All others are in a position to conquer the entire world :D

(I'm not sure about european island kingdoms though..)

I suspect a lot of the nice mods we've seen here are the result of 'testing' using the cheats. Some folks just like to see what's under the hood and the cheats are perfect for them.

To use them when actually playing the game? I can't see it...........

"Actually, just about any country can conquer the world. Not very hard."

Then I'd really like to see you conquer the world as Creek or Zulu.
