He was part of an Independence rebellion years later that I granted.
Then in re taking all those rebellious states I ended up with the Titular title Grand master of the Knights Templar.
It now costs me nothing to raise them and no fees for having them raised.

Be warned that they do, I believe, count towards your duchy titles so if you are a king having that and more than 1 other duchy will upset your vassals, they also still will not fight fellow Christians including Orthodox Christian this means peasant rebellions as well, or at least it did when I did this several patches ago.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but it's been done. That said, it's still pretty neat. Unfortunately, the Holy Order titles count towards your two-duchy limit, so you get opinion penalties.

yup, even easier with mercs, just give them a kingdom title when they're old and heirless (merc leaders don't like marriage it seems) and you'll inherit all of it
I did this to become condottiere of the company of st george (I gave the title away later anyway because they count to your duchy limit)

Open elective. If you die, one of your courtier inherits and you play as him instead of continuing as your dynasty.
