Hello forums! In my current iron man game I am France. The year is around 1470. I am allied to Full Iberian wedding Castile (Aragon, Naples).

My main goal of the game is to form the Holy Roman Empire through the reforms as France. And possibly form the Roman Empire if things go well.

So I started the game allying electors and played HRE politics. Well Ol Freddy died early, like early 1460s and allowed me to win the election. Very soon after that (I added myself to the HRE) and invaded Burgundy and got the Full Burgundian Inheritance.

My questions are: Is it worth it to me to release the dutch states eventually or just keep the land for myself.

I probably won't be able to prevent the shadow kingdom so do I just invade Italy and release the states back into the empire?

Basically where's my best road of opportunity given my situation.

It's never really worth it to release any land ever
(exception: you took a single province - release it as a nation vassal because they have cores everywhere - reconquest to give to your vassal - annex vassal)

You'll have some bad events for the dutch unless you convert their culture or move your capital there. You can either stomp the rebels because you're france and would never move yoru capital, or you could move your capital there and collect delicious trade after you invade england.

For the HRE - you can always conquer other lands you don't want and then add to HRE and make into states if you want to for roleplay (I said no to dutch land because it's incredible land and you want that for yourself) but it's still always better to just take land for yourself

For the shadow kingdom - let them leave then conquer them. Less Aggressive expansion and "Italy is ripe for the taking".. as the mission states lol

Basically, being HRE emperor doesn't mean you have to play nice with the empire, it's given you an opportunity to not have to fight an emperor because you ARE the emperor. Use this opportunity to conquer anything you want while placating the german states that the glorious empire of France totally isn't going to annex them soon...

You can still do all this and form the HRE, just don't full conquer all the OPM's

Well, as France I'd say that you can pass at least the first 3 reforms by adding province and ticking IA before the reformation, and you'll have enough AE from getting Italy, England and so. Then you can ignore the HRE game and invade it when reformation starts as you'll lose IA anyway. You'll pass the other reforms by adding provinces inside the HRE from eastern Europe.

Another note: if you form the HRE with the final reform, you can't then reform the Roman Empire unless there is some intermediate tag-switch shenanigans that allow it. But the HRE tag does not have access to the Roman Empire decision.

I always just kill the Fraudulent German Confederation as France. I should probably just eliminate all the Princes and become Emperor of an imaginary empire for the reforms, though.
