I love the whole entire story about CIM franchise. The game and how it's just a small team of people who created a great game and good relationship with its fans. I am concern about the fact that you all are selling a DLC day one of release, well, pre-order. I'm thinking, if there is a DLC day one of release then that content should have been part of the game itself. I view DLCs as after after game release content that's inspired by the customer feedback about the game. The rational behind with holding content from the game to sell it as DLC day one is a bad habit that huge dev/pub do to their "AAA" games just to drive profits and to cover up the shady quality of so called "AAA" games. CIM was/is a very good game and I really looking forward to CIM2 being even greater. paradox Interactive, please dont let the success of any of your games cause you all to pic up any more of those bad habits that companies like Ubicrap("95% of PC gamers are pirates",) EA(excuses available), Microsoft(the great PC gamer hater), and many others devs/pub who dont value their customers.

You're doing great and I think you all are only going to get even better.

Treat it as pre-order bonus. So instead of a day 0 DLC, you would rather want a flat price increase (with DLC included in core)?

Day 0 DLC isn't bad per se. Its as bad as selling different versions of the product (collector's edition etc), and usually they include some in-game item that is never available for those who take up the game after release. Now that's real, real bad.

I used to feel this way myself, but I really just don't anymore. But it depends on the individual game. If a game is released that's got one or 10 day 1 DLC and that DLC fills in blank spots in the game then it's obvious that the developers held back content from the game to gain more profits by selling individual DLC with it and it won't matter if it's day 1 DLC or Month 10 DLC a company that does that is likely to always hold back content from the full game and or expansions to put into DLC and that sort of developer/publisher should not be rewarded by buying their titles.

However it's easily as obvious when DLC is simply put out as extra content to sell regardless if it's day 1 or month 10 too. IMHO, DLC should never be used to fill in the bare spots in games, it should only be used to add extra content to the game, if it's used to fill in bare spots, then boycott those developers/publishers, otherwise there's really nothing to talk about.

Sure I hate being nickle and dimed to death, but only when it's DLC that is filling in bare spots or when publishers make it unusually difficult for people to get that content (i.e. using steam wallet only as a pay source instead of paypal, credit cards, and steam wallet).

My only concern with CiM 2 is that people don't have it so hyped up in their own minds that it bombs like Simcity is bombing right now. It seems to be a trend lately on sequel games that we work them up to really high points in our minds and then are severely let down when we get what is actually being offered to us in the game.

I still can't see why people have a problem with this. They have already said the dlc was completed after the game, it takes time to publish a game. It's a free incentive to pre-order, and a small company needs pre-orders to keep money flowing in. Besides, the game is about the third the price of simcity, and I am sure the CIM 2 dlc will be available for cheap later. What I don't like is games like simcity offering a normal version and an overpriced special version. Also, the awful simcity dlc's are almost the price of CIM 2 and offer only a few themed buildings each. I also don't like when they start releasing paid for dlc which wasn't in the pre-order on the day the game is released.

Oh, dang, I had 3 paragraphs written up on the pre-purchase DLC then wrote something else instead because I thought the OP was NOT talking about the pre-order DLC.

IMO, Pre-purchase DLC is simply an incentive to get the players to buy the game early, it allows the company to take less of a chance that the game might not be received by the gamers as a good game after launch since the game will have already sold pre-purchase copies and gotten back money that they might not otherwise have gotten at all after release.

And the gamer gets a little bonus DLC for doing so. Since there is nothing that stops players from buying the pre-purchase I see no problem in offering it. Should it have been in the game already? Who knows. None of us know if they actually did the DLC the day after they wrapped up the game or if they did it during the game development period, or if they did it during the game developement period but did it as DLC and not as game content that they then ripped out of the game.

Maybe publishers should simply stop offering Day 1 DLC and hold it back to Day 10, or Day 30 so that there is no question that it was developed after the game was finished, right? When you think about it this way, who does it benefit? Only those that are concerned about Day 1 DLC being developed during the development period of the game itself in giving them some peace of mind thinking it was developed after the game was starting to sell. It benefits nobody! IN fact it hurts to the gamer that wants the content but then has to wait 10 or 30 days just to make people think the DLC was developed after the game launched.

There is plenty to complain about DLC in total that we don't really need to complain that DLC is ready on day 1 or it is used as an incentive to get people to pre-order the games.

Huh? CiM 1 was a DLC fest release title. No difference this time especially given how they've priced the game ($20). I also don't like it, but I still ended up buying most of the DLCs until the game no longer worked properly on AMD 5970 that uses crossfire and they never released a patch for it.

Honestly speaking, I didn't like how they approach the patching of the game and gave some lame excuses as to why certain basic features are not there (like vehicles using multi-lanes properly or diagonal stops) espescially given how much money we've given them over the course of the many DLC releases. Anyone who played CiM 1 from the start should know the disappointments many of us who aren't head over heels in love over the game (but still enjoy it) have experienced.

I brought CiM2 just because I do like CiM1 and I (truly) do hope that they have fixed all the complaints about CiM1 and came back with a title that address all that. We'll see soon. If they end up like the Cities XL franchise (basically a game designed to milk money but never actually works properly/well), then this will be my last purchase. I hope Colossal Order has grown in quality and not let us simulator fans down.

Omg... another thread about DLC -.-'

Is it so hard to just browse the forum before posting :S

Well I did search some but there are almost 200 pages of threads here.

Beside this is more about the mindset that goes into the decision making. With the wrong mindset decisions are made that make a would be great game, suck. Now that I have the game, It only took starting the game and trying to move around the map, to see that my concern was not unfounded. They over thought the controls scheme and took out simple mouse scrolling. The music in the opening sounds not great at all. The graphics of people getting on the bus, on loading screen looks "cheezy" and overly simplified. Why did they think it look good to see the edges of the map? That just makes the game look unfinished.

So the fact that they thought enough about what DLC(s) for this game, before it was out for release, tell me that their thoughts where not wisely being used on making sure the game was a worthy of its expectations.
