Would they not just go to 1? I don't think ships die from lack of supply, they just become useless husks
Since I have started paying more attention to it:
  • enemy transport got destroyed in a region I took over
  • enemy transport got captured in a region I took over
  • enemy ships just leaving the port of the region I conquered (which for long I thought the only behaviour of enemy ships when they are in a region conquered)
So, by now, I have to admit that I haven't the slightest clou anymore, how enemy ships behave upon a region conquest. The last option, ships just leaving, seems to be by far the most common behaviour, though.

In all the years I've played this game, I've never seen a fleet die in a captured port like planes do. What probably happened is that the port fell to the rebels, the ship left port and moved into the adjacent sea province. Since they had no home port, they weren't supplied. They slowly lost strength until they were destroyed just like armies do on unsupplied islands.

Since you're new you should also know that when you take an enemy's port, there's a miniscule chance you might actually capture one or more of their ships. It's a nice little trophy, but i've never captured anything larger than a CL as far as I can remember.

I don't recall capturing anything, then again, I might have missed it in all my "what is this crappy ship doing in my navy, be gone to the merchant marine!" purges

That said, I've never seen ships die from lack of supply, I once had an entire fleet stuck in Hong Kong out of supply due to loss of convoys down to 1 in strength but it did not die, it was just practically useless and as it was just a bunch of old battleships and I was desperately trying to hold a line close to Berlin, I didn't care. My guess is that the ships were immediately killed by the partisans like planes are in this instance as even if they died of lack of supply, that takes a while to happen.

Perhaps the OP can clarify as to how immediate was the loss of those ships, immediately with the partisan take over or a while after?

regardless i start a new vanilla game and ragequit that modded mess. For some reason i have motorized forces in africa but they cant move into the desert. Does this have to do with low infastructure?

EDIT: Nvm i wasnt at war with vichy for whatever reason. Is there a cheat to reduce dissent so i can declare war on vichy without everyone suddenly deciding that they want to become a fricicn anarchist or fascist? Also shouldnt they be a puppet of germany because they arent? Also free france never declared war on vichy. Yes ik how to go in my save file to reduce dissent just wana know if there is a way to do it with f12. Just declared war on vichy and save edited dissent down to 10 because for whatever reason pearl harbor incresses dissent by way too much. Either that or general mobilization. Next time ill try partial mobilization.

Cheats are boring and dissent an important part of the game.
Btw, dissent for war declarations is highly dependend on your gouvernment type and policy sliders... (good time to once again mention this manual DH comes with... *grin).

Mmh, weird. While EoD was once finetuned to Germany 1933 (and is probably one of the best ways to play Germany) it has enlarged its scope to many other countries during its long development. I've just recently played China with it and I had lots of fun. The only downside I found were the too op upgrade options for units.

I don't recall capturing anything
While I do recall a message for ships getting destroyed upon regional conquest (similar message to destroyed air units), I don't recall a message about capturing a ship... but I am 100% sure of at least one instance in my last game (which again made me think that it happened several times before as well when I wondered about a ship I couldn't remember suddenly showing up).

Also for some fricking reason naval invasion just dont work sometimes. Like the troops wont even leave their trasnports. And when i forrce them out they never take the province no matter how many more troops i have. How 2 fix? This could be marines but sometimes it works fine on armed beaches even with non marines.

Dont worry ill come back to it. Mainly a lag issue with my pc. Also it was aprtially a gltich with vichy. They should have became a puppet of germany and went to war with me. But they didnt. Also i didnt declare war japan did pearl harbor so it was defensive. All i did was general mobalization.

Ships without a home port die at sea. Regardless, it's such a minor aspect of the game, it's not worth discussing any further. However, capturing an enemy ship in port is always fun :)

Yeah holy crap thats annoying as the USA. Me trying to do navals tuff while the japanese manage to slip behind my naval line somehow and naval invade the island that all my ships have a home base at. Srsly japan is so annoying that i want to declare the friccin great patriotic war 2 electric boogalo on them. But im dealing with germany and supporting the uk naval invasion of norway. Right now im building up resources for a 3 pronged attack on germany. One naval invasion of france and the netherlands, one of itally and reenforcements in norway and eventually denmark.

Hard to decipher completely from your description, but I think the issue could be your Amphibious Assault mission settings. See the example below.

EGAvKsG.jpg

If your TPs' Strength or Org is below whatever 'Stop' values you have setup, the mission will appear to hang up until it can be performed. Sometimes they won't leave port, sometimes they'll trek all the way from Tokyo to within sight of Waikiki Beach before turning around (i.e. got into a scrape along the way).

If I'm doing a Pacific War with lots of opposing navies to dodge, I typically set assault missions up with 'zero' values and let them go unescorted to their destinations. I accompany their path with covering fleets if the path is via contested sea zones. I also typically select 'Both' & de-select 'Auto-return to base', for quicker island hopping.

I never select 'Disengage from combat'. Nothing more infuriating than being a few hours from landing after an epic amphibious assault and a rando DD happens on the scene causing your TP's to scatter.

Made of me think of 'that one time'... playing KR as Ottoman Empire (awhile back), took possession of this beauty after capturing Thessaloniki.

That is so awesome. We had a thread on here many many years ago and we all agreed that none had ever witnessed a capital ship being captured. That's really cool.

I wonder what conditions must be met to capture a ship or wether it is just randomized...

In my confirmed capture it was after an amphibious landing and, I think, it was a lone port region (no naval base) with surrounding territory of other countries.
While the destroyed transport was also after an amphibious landing but in a naval base and with lots of surrounding regions owned by the same country as the transport.

Going back to HOI2, it's never been explained how this happens. My guess is the ship is under repair (or awaiting repairs) in the port or harbor and has too little organization to flee. It's funny, whenever I play as Italy and invade Yugoslavia, I frequently capture the same DD unit.

You're guess is as good as mine. I seem to recall capturing a fair bit, but that may be due to playing as JAP, i.e. 'lots' of amphib assaults. Really no idea though.

I frequently capture the same DD unit
Interesting data point! Perhaps pre-selected via some kind of internal table?

You should post this in the Awesome Screenshots thread so it will live for eternity.
Done!
