Alexios Komnenos decided to die from depression at the age of 28, leaving the empire in the hands of his infant son. Soon after, I got this message demanding my abdication in favor of the commander of the varangian guard of all people.
9584C6252F19ADE7F9FA99078B67B233244B33EE

I almost want to accept just to see what happens to the varangian guard title. Does it become hereditary along with the imperial one or does the imperial title go to future commanders of the guard?

Too bad I am on ironman, and will ruin my entire run if I accept. :D

He keeps the title. The ERE will be inherited by whoever inherits the Varangian Guard, just as is the case for mercenary titles. This happened to me once several patches ago.

Holy orders and mercenary bands have some kind "Open elective" succession, while your empire has another succession law. So he will hold both titles, but after his dead both titles will go to different people.

I once gave the Jomsvikings (holy order of germanic faith) the kingdom of Galicia. The leader of the Jomsvikings hold both titles, Kingdom of Galicia and Jomsvikings, but after his dead his son inherited the kingdom, while some random guy got the Jomsvikings.

They've changed that, then - mercs and holy orders used to swap to the succession mechanism of the landed titles they gained. Or maybe it was changed from yours, I'm not sure. Either way, at some point it was definitely the case land could be held by mercs or holy orders in perpetuity.

Mhh i am unsure. According to the wiki "If the vassal company/holy order somehow changes its Succession law to a non Elective law (such as gaining a kingdom), the kingdom's succession law will supersede the "default" succession, forcing the Company/Holy Order to be passed along Dynastic routes. If there is no Dynastic heir, you will be the Heir by default (as standard), enabling you to gain command of the company/Holy Order." http://www.ckiiwiki.com/Holy_orders
the kingdom succession law should overwrite the open election succession law. But i am pretty sure that in my current playthrough (version 2.5.1 and 2.5.2, all major DLCs except conclave, horse lords and sunset) the Jomsvikings held the Kingdom of Galicia, but after the dead of the leader both titles were passed to different people.

Yeah i was right.

King of Galicia & Lead of Jomsvikings
0492BD699B015605356ACE699A4623306C3A0464

Kingdom of Galicia has agnatic elective succession law, the kingdom was inherited by his son
078032CCE38EA02668F9354D5E68571607024E5B

While Jomsvikings has agnatic open elective succession law, the title was inherited by a random family member

This is bugged. I already posted this problem about the "overthrow ruler" faction putting the least likely person in power in bug forum. It would be nice if you could post this too.
