Why have the games designers awarded the Hurricane a superior air combat value and morale to the Spitfire and rated the early Spitfire as a multi role fighter which it wasn’t or am I misunderstanding the significance of the combat and moral ratings.

Models dont matter that much realistically, the year the model and tech is researched does. But what you say can be a simple oversight by the devs way back in HOI2 vanilla, so my guess is they never fixed it. I have no idea how long it would take to fix, however.

Also if the game is parrreling history the when when both Poland and France surrenders the RAF should recieve 4 ace Spitfire units . That would reprisent the matching of ace Polish pilots with Spitfires, in the Battle of Britain four Polish squadrons accounted for 15% of all kills.

The British did not actually have fighters that fit the HOI2-Darkest Hour framework, so the designers did the best they could with what there was. They went with chronological order instead of actual capability, I guess.

AFAIK, nobody was really thinking of fighter-bombers before the war started. In the First World War, fighters that came down low to strafe and bomb suffered heavy losses to ground fire. It took a while for air forces to realize that the high speed of the current fighters actually made them the safest aircraft at low altitude. The Germans had just one small unit of trained fighter-bombers during the Battle of Britain. It was called Erprobungsgruppe 210, and was meant to test possible uses for the Me 210; that is, to find out if low-altitude attack was really practical. It turned out to be a very effective unit, but was too small to make a big difference.

Pilots are not a resource in DH, so you would basically give UK 4 free fighter/interceptor units. Since air units are very expensive to produce in DH full that would probably be too much of an advantage.

Perhaps it could be possible to convert a given amount of supplies, money and iron to fighters or interceptors with three stars of experience to begin with.

That would be a solution

Historicaly pilots were a resource, the lack of them almost brought Britain to lose the Battle of Britain and later in the war was part of the end game for the Luftwaffe.

However I conceed that having to allocate manpower to the differant service arms could well make DH unplayable

Air unit in DH are groups or wings, 4 squadrons would be only one british group, so only one full strength unit
