Ok. After dealing with some former account problems I'm back in action. And so is this AAR too.

Prelude

The history of the Great Britain's American colonies is a fickle one. Great Britain's policies in the new world time and time again lead to conflict with the people who settled there. For a time, the colonies were effectively left to fend for themselves against threats in the new world. Following the French and Indian war, several unwelcome taxes were introduced in the colonies, forcing the colonies alone to pay for the recent war. Unrest against these taxes would eventually lead to calls for parliamentary representation, and also lead to direct conflict against the British government. Both peaceful and violent. Despite protest, the Government of Great Britain refused to compromise, levying more unwelcome taxes, acts, and increasing it's standing military presence. These many years of continued mis-administration of the colonies by the British government, would lead the to the conflict known as the Revolutionary war.

Following the battles at Concord, Lexington, Bunker Hill, and also following the George III's Proclamation of Rebellion, Patriots to the cause of Independence seized control of the colonies. The states began revising their constitution's, Continental Congress voted to start severing ties with Great Britain, and Patriot Militia led by George Washington forced the British out of Boston. On July 2, 1776 the Declaration of Independence was ratified by the Second Continental Congress. The short lived Confederation of the United States was born.

The years between 1776 and 1781 were filled intense battles between the Colonial revolutionaries and British Empire. Under the command of supreme general George Washington, the revoluntionaries eventually gained the upper hand against Great Britain. The battle tactics of the revoluntionaries, along with lack of support from both allied nations and British loyalists in the colonies, eventually lead to Great Britain's defeat. Following the defeat of Cornwallis at Yorktown, support for continuing the war against the colonies was lost. Treaty of Paris in 1783 effectively secured peace for the colonies, established new borders, and gave complete formal independence from Great Britain.

After winning independence the main issue dominating the Confederation was the distribution of power amongst the states and the federal government. Some wanted a strong federal government, while others wanted states to individually hold the power. Conflict between these views came to a head at the Philadelphia Convention, where a deadlock between delegates quickly turned sour. Unable to reach a compromise, several states became disillusioned with the Confederation.

The smaller states of New England were the first to officially leave the Confederation. Attempts at further compromise were enacted, but were unable to prevent the collapse of the weak nation. The Treaty of Maryland on January 15, 1784 effectively dissolved the Confederation of the United States, and drew the boundaries for 7 Nations that would be spawned.

New England was formed from the small states in the North-East.

New York from the state of New York and it's claim on Vermont.

Pennsylvania from the former states of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey.

Carolina from the states of North and South Carolina, as well as it's western claim.

Georgia from the remaining southern lands.

And Indiana from the remaining western claims and areas near the great lakes

Following the dissolution, fears arose over belief that Great Britain would attempt to retake it's lost colonies. A quick agreement was made in Philadelphia between the new nations to a supportive defensive alliance against Great Britain. Should Great Britain ever attempt to invade, the nations would come to each others aid. The document, later known as the 7 Gentleman's Accord, later expanded it's defensive alliance clause against "Non-American nations with intentions to establish colonialistic ventures in the confines of the agreed signed nations of this document."

These fears were not lost to France, who continued to support the struggling nations of the former colonies after the dissolution. Following the French Revolution and his succession to power, Napoleon Bonaparte personally guaranteed the independence of the nations against Great Britain. Relations and trade between France and the 7 nations boomed. Relations became so high that France, as a sign of good will, decided to grant autonomy to it's French Louisiana colony. Frances support also came to be a great help in 1812, during a time where Great Britain began to infringe on the 7 nations rights to international trade.

The years leading up to 1836 were relatively peaceful for the 7 nations. Time passed, treaties were signed, but a status quo of sorts reigned supreme. Spanish Florida was eventually seized by Georgia when the Spain failed to govern the region. French Louisiana signed treaties with Great Britain establishing the 49 parallel as the border between the two nations. And agriculture and industry flourished within the 7 nations. It was a time of peace...

But things were soon to change. By 1836, the relative peace enjoyed by the 7 nations had begun to dissolve. And long standing claims held by the nations had begun to resurface. Many nations had land claims left over from the days of their British colonialism, but left them unattested. It would be a single new Idea however that would eventually lead to one nation testing their claims, and gaining so much more. Forging a path from a simple nation, to Great Power.

The idea? Manifest Destiny of course...

And the Nation?

The year of 1836 finds the North American continent ready for quite a ride. Mejico has some trouble stiring up with Texas, as Texan rebels attempt to break free from the Tyranny of the Mexician government. Louisiana and Great Britain are getting irritated over Oregon, with both sides claiming huge amounts of territory over the other. And there have been some rumblings in both the South and North. But before things start going off, lets take a look at what Carolina has to offer.

Not much to really mention right now. Besides being 13th and having only 2 million people. The elections should be fun due to the parties that run in them.

Whigs, Democrats, and Federalists. Yes...Federalists too, although their platform is more for a stronger central Carolinian government here. Should be interesting to see if they win an Election before they die off.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At any rate, things are definitely going to change around here.

Interesting. I'll follow this one. Curious how you're going to incorporate the Disunited States of America into world history.

Yeah, I thought of Turtledove's Disunited States of America when I first saw this too. :)

Really glad to see that you've revived this idea, Ryu. I was disappointed that the previous attempt never got going and wondering what had happened there.

But now that you're back on track, good luck and go Carolina!

Great stuff, look forward too more. One thing though. Why does Carolina have a islamic half moon in its flag?

Well a big reason why things slowed down quite a bit was all the on/off work I was doing with the scenario. I could have easily have just played things with automatically having all cores, but I wanted to have things go through an event lead-up. Plus I had to make some events to deal with things caused by the scenario and spice it up. New Oregon Treaty events, possible revolt events, ect. I still might need to tweak them and add some flavor events too. And I'm still debating whether to just use random generals, or throw in some historical ones like Lee, Stonewall, or a few from south. Even have a what if general with Abraham Lincoln! :D

A big tweak I did in the existing events was to give many of them an ai_chance. It just seemed a bit weird to have events with alternate outcomes that could never happen because the AI will never choose them. Hopefully with adding these ai_chance, it should offer some randomness while still staying a small bit historical.

Start of the game, General goings on...

The Spanish government has choosen to go with the Carlists! Instituting a Monarchy that a few are not too happy about. Carlos V assures his rule is legit, and is working to repress any dissent that may come up from opposition. Many sense that a bloody struggle could be brewing.

The rebellious nation of Belgium has has vanished completely. After realizing that the Netherlands would never allow a free Belgium state, the rebels have decided instead to form a secret Belgium Underground of intricate anti-dutch operations. As well as raising the country, causing revolt and havok and probably hoarding all the waffles to boot! :p

New York is in a problem of their own. Green Mountain boy rebels, angry at being repressed by the Government of New York, raised revolts in Vermont! In their claims, they present that New York has no legitimacy to controling Vermont at all, and that the people of Vermont are the only ones who have ever had such authority. That as such, the people of Vermont have a right to be, or not to be governed by New York. And that they have the right to leave New York if it was voted to be.

Such a response was quickly opposed by New York, who deemed secession unconstitutional. In an effort to save Vermont from a horrible fate, the Rebels contacted members of New Englands government for help. New England, of whom had once controlled Vermont as a separate by willingly equal state, quickly agreed. New England was also able to convince the Pennsylvanian government to join in the war as well, with promises of gaining a long standing claim of Pennsylvania held on the province of Buffalo.

In Carolina's political scene, the Whig Part wins the election! Carolinian politics for the time are quite fickle, and many see that a Federalist victory could exist in the possible future. In a state conducted poll it is found that nearly half the populace believes in the Whigs, and another for the Federalists. Democrats had dropped into dead last with only a few fringe votes.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

vaarc015uf2.jpg

The Texan situation almost turns hot for the Carolinian government, when officials from Texas approach with an offer for an alliance. Upon further review of the current Texas situation and of our own, we quickly decline. Going against the Mejican government is determined to be a foolish endeavor at the current time.

The Texan nation is later made a reduced state by the victorious Mejican army.

Around the same time of news in Texas, we gain word that trouble is brewing in our southern sister state of Georgia. Cherokee Indians, those whom had lived in Georgia had recently come to odds with the Georgian government over land disputes. Many claimed foul play by White men, and that their encroachment was destroying the Cherokee way of life. Georgian officals turned a blind eye, and the Cherokee raised in contempt of them.

Informants in Georgia are told to monitor the situation in the case that Carolina might need to get involved.

Is Louisiana a satellite of France or independent? I don't really see it amounting to much, you should probably take some territory off its hands.

If you look closely at the last screenshot in his post you will see that Louisiana is a satellite state allied with France.

That should answer your question ;)

It should still be possible to take territory from it, for example by waiting until Bismarck goes to war in Europe and starts unifying France. The Frenchmen probably won't have time to help their Acadian cousins then.

EDIT: On a side-note Louisiana is protestant in above mentioned screenshot. You'd think they would be catholic.

I left them protestant mostly for the reason that while there are more French now, there's still a healthy mix of Yankee and Dixie and they out number the French with Religious majority. I think it's somewhere near 20% French, 20% Dixie, 20% Yankee, and everything else is natives and a few British. I may have to tweak things to have even more French from the start in the future though.

Our Armed forces decide to adopt a philosophy emphasising breaking people's will rather than enforcing our own. We have been assured that the former is much better in the long run for us.

Carolinian informants have discovered that the Cherokee have slaughtered the Georgian Militia down to the last man! In doing this, they have been able to storm and take Georgia's capital of Atlanta! The situation appears to be deteriating more rapidly than expected.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

vaarc012bn2.jpg

Horrible news comes out from Georgia! The Indian rebels have overthrown the Georgian government! Informants and fleeing citizens reveal that the Cherokee are causing much panic thoughout the countryside. Though the majority of the rebel indians appears to be devestating the Georgia proper for the most part. The rebel have also partaken to execute many government officials, replacing them with those more friendly to the Cherokee. All of which as retribution for the suffering of the Cherokee peoples.

Upon hearing of these actions, the Carolinian government demands the full restoration the former Georgian government on the threat of direct intervention.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

vaarc013zv1.jpg

Not surprisingly they refuse. Carolina's response is quick and swift. Direct intervention and to secure georgia with force.

By the time we mobilize our forces and interviene, the Indian rebels had completely conquered 'Georgia proper.' The army of the Indian rebels had completely vanished as well, mainly in thanks to the efforts of some Georgian partisans. Fearful that vestiges of Indian rebels could be hiding throughout Georgia, the authorities in Charlotte gave the order to completely occupy the nation and establish order.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

vaarc018aom6.jpg

With most of Georgia disrupted due to the loss of their government in Atlanta, Carolinian troops made quick work through the nation. The work took much time and effort, perhaps a bit too long. The Carolinian government took note of this, and begain devising a leadership academy to produce suitable generals and admirals for future efforts.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

vaarc019hk0.jpg

When Georgia was finally restored to order a new debate had begun. With the government there in ruins, many Carolinian officials saw that such a weak leadership could produce another such Indian revolt, but even worse. Such a revolt risky neighbor country could greatly undermine the security of the Carolinian state. Moderates to the Georgian issue sought to simply make Georgia a satellite, however more expansionist members delegated for complete annexation! Following a vote, it was decided that incorporation of Georgia would be the best method to ensure security.

We decide to heal hearts with kindness. Or more specifically cash aid. It helps lessen bad feelings held by most former Georgians, but adds on to our war debt. Making it total around 10,000 or so, but nothing we couldn't recover from. Plans are quickly made to manage the budget to lessen the debt.

Changing politics at the time of Georgian annexation. They even out again after this though, just with more support for Whigs than Federalists. 72% to 28%.

Carolinian Sailors with their quick thinking rescue Georgia's navy! The adrift vessels were in poor condition when found, and immediately sent to port in Carolina proper.

Nice, that just more than doubled the size of Carolina.

I notice Louisiana and Virginia mobilizing in one of the above screenshots though. I would have to think that they aren't going to be too pleased with their neighbor's expansionist ambitions.

They won't be too much of a problem really. Most of the other alternate nations are really just pushovers and don't put up much of a fight. Well, as muc a fight as a weak AI can put up. It does get annoying when their Mobilization pool finally shows up. Fortunately by then it's already too late.

I've actually played up to 1860 at this point, and besides a few errors things are looking quite good.

I hope you don't end up becoming the USA with a different flavor. It would be pretty boring.
