I dunno if this is just because of AOW, but now France can recruit ''fresh blood'' for the HCW. It's was already tricky to defeat the French army, doing it so when France had 15k Hungarians or 10k Milanese....

From what I've gathered, although you can call allies into old wars now, the malus to forming an alliance while at war tends to be too large to overcome unless you have friendly attitude (and you are big). And other nations except Portugal tend to not like England at game start.

I won the war as England first try by calling Portugal in (kudos to the dip rep advisor). France called Hungary in but they never sent troops and I could eventually peace them out. Burg DOWed me at around 40% WS on France which was problematic but I'm taking my revenge on them now...go French attack dog go!

Because the AI is now reluctant to be lured in Bearn for mountain battles, which was virtually my bread and butter strategy.

Get access through Brittany and pool your men in the south (Navarra/Aragonese mountains). If you can then call Portugal into the war, their troops should hopefully join you in the mountains eventually. I actually increased autonomy in my French provinces as well as I figured the Norman / Guyenese rebels would end up fighting the French (and they did albeit extremely late in the war). From there it's a matter of striking the French when and where they are weak and wearing them down. My war went through multiple phases but I only went up to 7 loans in the end. I reccomend sticking in the war for the long run, try to seperate peace Provence out as that eliminates around 15k enemy troops. Then focus on either Paris/liberating provinces or sieging French vassals. Get a province sorted where you can hire mercs on the mainland - faster and you may well need fresh bodies quickly.

Probably, yeah. It took me awhile to even integrate Mazovia when I was playing as Poland, so something the size of France would take decades, I'm sure.

Talk about unwinnable. In the MP game I was just playing, a France player called in a player Castille and Scotland. Not to mention the AI Denmark! Poor English player

i noticed this too. big difference to before where you had to think about every ducat where you spend it. makes it allmost to easy with england

When I've done it lately, I just leave France as a perma-PU/vassal. Worth the slot, and frees you up to pursue colonial stuff, just intervening in Europe to keep HAB/HRE from getting too strong. Becoming HRE yourself, though worth it, sucks you back in, so be careful you don't end up trying to do everything. (All assuming you can still win the HYW in 1.8 - haven't tried it yet).

And there's a slim, but increasing chance that you can inherit a stable PU upon monarch death (unless they've changed that in 1.8).

Maybe cause FRA is the defender, idk. Played one ENG game and "won" tis good enough for me, however if P-Dox makes it next to impossible to win, then boooo. It's not like the AI will ever win, so atleast give the player a chance

I've only tried a little bit as england so far.
The problem with calling in allies is that as england you get a -1000 score to even make an alliance. But France seems to be able too do it no problem. I'm not sure if this goes down a bit.

Money is no big issue now with england wich helps alot.
Problem I keep facing is that I keep losing battles. French generals have higher manouver so don't get crossing penalties. The mountains only have like 14 supply limit. I guess if you get access with aragon it can work. I'll try that next.

He died in about 1451 for me yesterday and I got a 4/6/6 Lancaster god-king via the Wars of the Roses event in his place. I'd given up on continental Europe as early as I possibly could; if you do that, and even if you take things very slowly, it's entirely possible to control every province in the British Isles except from Orkney by 1470.

Yeah I thought the same thing. This sounds like the next gamey tactic PI will have to squash. Clearly the intent is that this war is 99% unwinnable (as it should be IMO).
