The art is Stellaris is superb! Truly. The current diversity of ship designs for the different phenotypes evoke many of the sci-fi genres out there. Humanoids share their ship designs with Mammals. This design is based on the most common concept art for human space ships as big bulky metal boxes. They are great, but another common trope for human sci-fi ships is the classic "Retro" 1960s design, with aerodynamic streamlined bodies. I would like to see a DLC that adds a new ship set based on this design concept for the Humanoid phenotype. I think this would add to the feel of the exploration theme in Stellaris. Players can still pick the Mammalian set if they want to create their Human Imperium or the Avian set for exotic space Elves.

This classic 1960s "retro" design is based in some common features:

-curved streamline design and accent lines

-saucers and spheres

-white ceramic plating color

I think the design concept scales up rather easily. This is helped by the modular ship design in Stellaris. The bridge section or front can have a (partial) saucer section or spheres, with aerodynamic connections.

Design elements from the classic star trek could be used.

This is what the new Master of Orion did for the humans. Not too off from what I am imagining.

I'm on board with the addition of retro ship designs.
Of course they need to have the typical Stellaris features like beeing modular and having the turrets on top.
Like the turret on this toy spaceship
Retro spaceship.jpg

I really want to see some plane-looking ships with wings.

Or something more actual warship based like Spacebattleship Yamato here:
Spacebattleship Yamato.jpg

And by the way, what about a second ship design for each phenotype?
Of course thats some work for the design-crew but we don't need it tomorow, we will patiently wait for more diversity in the game. The Color changing for ships they added in 1.5 Banks is a great step towards unique ships for each empire by the way.

I think this would be a very nice way to add more cosmetic diversity to the game. I would fork over more money for additional designs.

I would also pay for a DLC like this. Just a purely cosmetic DLC like the plantoid portraits pack.

This has been on my wishlist for a while. I really like the Mammalian shipset, but I would really love a Human shipset based on the "atomic space age". Definitely a cosmetic DLC I would be happy to buy. :)

I've been beating the "ethos-associated ship types" drum for quite a while, and if that were to be a thing, this sort of theme would be so perfect for the Egalitarian ship type. Really capture the ethos' hopeful, idealistic vibe.
