I remember early in development that Henrik said that the further you go in the game the more mysteries you would unlock not only about the universe but also about your own race's origins.

My guess that there is several generic paths based on if you pick random/custom empire and then there is actual scripted backgrounds if you pick one of the empires that are available at start.
I like that idea. I think it would be a fantastic way to pull it off.

Hmm, the ability to start in Sol is enough human flavour for me. I care little for stories of ancient aliens interfering with our glorious history.
That's fine for you, but for me, I really enjoy having a great deal of flavor. We all enjoy these games in our own ways and me personally, I like to be completely sucked into the game. The more fuel for my imagination, the better... until it makes the game too complex to play, at that point not so much, but I can't imagine how a little added flavor to a few races would break the game. It can only serve to make the game better!

I for one think that it's incredibly more bad-ass that humans came up on their own and are now a sprawling empire rather than being the offspring/project of some advanced alien race.

I hope there already are things like this in game.

Most of what you are asking for could be used for any race, as long as the flavor text used your race name.

We found ancient alien base on mars, -> Research -> The name of this facility turned out to be "Human Flavor" it was a famous restaurant about 100,000 years ago. :)
Exactly my though, I was expecting a tread about food.

To serve man

But joke aside, I guess in the vanilla game their will be only one flavour of humans :D

I think it would be neat to occasionally encounter a human portrait fallen empire.

"Humans? Unexpected. Unfortunate. You are not ready." And then they never explain.

Actually, now that I think of it, and entire Exogenesis DLC wouldn't need to be humancentric. I mean, such a pack could contain unique anomalies for Human races, but the mechanics of discovering your species was influenced by a great precursor race could be added in for all. This could be done with several quest lines representing different possible origins. Maybe have some tied to an existing Fallen Empire, maybe uncovering the horrible truth of your race can lead to an End Game Crisis? Or maybe even change the way a current End Game Crisis is done.

Imagine getting a notification that another race has discovered it was the servitor race for the Unbidden, and they have resumed their role and now herald the coming storm.

And... so on... and so forth. Lots of possibilities.

I really like this entire post.

Having unique roles that can pop up, bonuses, and quest chains relating to origins and secret stories/histories would be cool.

Just a thought I had, it would be fun to play as the Humans where there are anomalies that are tailor made for the Humans. I'm thinking somewhere along the lines of figuring out more about our origins. There would be events that would remind you that Earth and her Human host has a long, extraterrestrial past. Ancient astronauts basically. I just think that it would be a fun story line to explore, I mean you can find out about the history of long extinct species and their empires but I haven't seen anywhere that you can find out about your own past. It's not that important, just a fun idea that would add more flavor to the Human game.

What would that be exactly? One or two additional anomalies in the solar system?

And do you mean with "our origins"? Our origins are on Earth?!

A story line that explains the origins of your particular species. I personally would like to see for the Humans, a story that would at least loosely incorporate mankinds myths and legends. I think it would be pretty interesting if there were a essentially a quest line that if you follow on it, you will receive certain bonuses as well as uncover the true origin of your species. I acknowledge that creating specific origin stories and all the anomalies and techs that could come with it, for every single race is a lot to ask. I think that maybe the prescripted species ought to have a quest line and for any custom species there should be one of a random set of quest lines. I think that it would add a fun, immersive aspect to the game that would bring you even closer to your particular empire, you know, it's always easier to fall in love with a character if you know their back story, where they come from. Besides that, I would like a Cosmetic DLC for Humans that further still, make Humanity addictive and interesting to play as. These are just thoughts, I personally think that they would make a fine addition to what I have seen so far of a game that seems to have infinite potential.
