In this, my fourth GC, I was astonished and delighted to see French civil war result in an independent Huguenot nation. (Excellent Avatar!)

The Huguenots came in with four provinces, but now retain only Poitou, Bearn, and Cevennes. As England, I have allied with them and the Scots (Yes, it's 1623, and those Scots have changed religions so many times that my lengthy diplo-annex maneuvers must be constantly restarted.) Soon I hope to incorporated Helvetia as we are all Reformed.

Two Questions:
1. What kinds of Huguenot success has the EU community seen?
2. How can I give the Huguenots their best chance of survival? I would like to see them emerge as a viable, cannibalistic counterweight to France, but their hold is precarious. Is there more I can do besides give them cash? I'm leery of sieging France myself--I don't want French possessions. (God forbid England inherits Huguenots...)

Thanks.
W.

I can't comment on the success of the Huguenots, but my suggestion for #2... If I'm in a position where I'm not too afraid of France (I'm always leery of the French), siezing Picardy is handy (it gives you a nice shortcut to the Seine;)) Beyond taking Paris (for the stars) and laying waste (or even taking) to enough of France (both in the colonies and on the mainland) to cause them to sue for peace, I try not to take anything other than colonies & money...

Cheers!

Never saw them. A,d I won't in the future, either, since I'm now playing with the IGC, and I believe they reused the huguenot TAG, precisely because it was extremely uncommon to see them appear.

A question : what is the three letter "code" of the huguenots? I would like to see what their avatar looks like...

Vassalize them, and if possible station forces in their provinces. I say if possible because, I don't remember if any of the provinces you named are coastal. Giving money, is a bit wastefull imo. The computer does a poor job of using it's resources.

For the three letter 'code,' explain where to look for it and I'll happily report back.

As for diplo-annexing the Huguenots, it's not my first choice. Poitou is a nice coastal piece, but the other two provinces are more interior--a nasty defensive challenge. Of course I would like to link them all for a nice red zone dominating the southern third of France, but they look better in Wallachia-grey.

The cash I send them seems to have been utilized moderately well. They expanded their fortress in Poitou and built 4-6k troops, slowly, in each province.

France had been allied with only Persia of late; then they added Poland-Lith and Mysore. Mysore declared war on England for two years of inconclusive battle. (Scotland and Iroquis bailed on their British commitments) Anyways, the Huguenots surprised me by moving artillery to Navarre (French at this point), but France was beating them down pretty good in all three of their home provinces. Mysore offered a white peace, England resumed colonization, and the Huguenots lived to fight another day. (Their avatar really is excellent.)

ok..fine, if they still exist. By the way, does someone know where I can find a list of the TAGs which have been reused in the IGC (in other words, of the countries which won't appear anymore)?

Thanks for the code...I found the shield.

Should use that tag for sommink else then.

They sure should. They could also use Corsica's and either Aragon's or Catalunya's, as I have never seen Corsica or Catalunya successfully revolt, and have only seen Aragon do so once (they should keep one of them for the sake of Catalan nationalism, however).

I have the IGC and have seen Protestent France appear once, are the hugenoughts the same country? Anyway France had been nicely particened (without my help, I was Netherlands) into Bavarian, Palintate, Portugese, Spanish, and Venetian?! territory. France itself had only five channal coast provinces and Paris left. Unfortuenitly French Protestents appeared in a Portugese province and Portugal was able to reinvade and annex them.

Usually it ends with the Hugenots signing a peace few days before winning the siege: the smaller nations tend to have a "survivor" habit when they fight the big guye even when they are winning...
