HUGE debt.. is it better to let myself bankrupt?

I am playing as Livonian Order, I just successfully defended my country from a Danish invasion, but at a huge cost:

If you think there is no possibility whatsoever of getting attacked in the next 5-10 years then it might be worth it as long as you have all provinces of right culture/religion. However it is probably better to simply pay it.

I would rather just start anew and do better though.

well... how is your income when you put your troops on low maintainance? 620 in dept isn`t to much to come back from... after a defensiv war against the ottos I was 2k in debt and I came back from it, but in the end it is your choice.

Yup, agreed with above. Bankruptcy will make it totally impossible for you to defend yourself for the duration. It's pretty unfortunate to rack up that much debt in a defensive war, so you don't even gain any land to offset your costs - I would be tempted to restart, you might be looking at a long wait. If you don't want to, turn your troop maintenance down and sit about for a bit. Or is there any possibility of you attacking a neighbour, and settling the war for all their money + reparations?

Very little money. I ended up bankrupt so yeah starting over now. Haha.

The bankruptcy event is a-historical. Your soldiers shouldn't lose all their morale, that's ridiculous. There were alternative ways to reward them, like giving the ability to take their needs from the people directly, right to plunder in other words.
