HttT Patch Proposal: Making Dynasties Matter

change the diplomatic relationship [not the action] from Royal Marriage to Dynastic Ties and have all nations ruled by members of the same dynasty as yours perpetually tied, and therfore potentially in line to succession but possibly with a lower value than a first generation royal marriage.
It makes no sense that a kingdom surrounded by nations ruled by the kings cousins would fall into a random local nobles hands on his death, especially without his neigbours putting up a fight over it.

Secondly, would it be possible for countries to remember what dynasties have ruled them, with pretender rebels being more likely to come from dynasties which have claim to the throne though merit of once having sat on it. i.e. in england york and lancaster more likely to rise up against tudor than the generics of the like of neville or the likes.
Maybe a dynasty ruling a country gets one line the save history entry reading
former=dynasties = ( "lancaster" = 2 York = 3 Tudor = 1 ] each time there was a new king his number would increase by one its number of rulers from that dynasty. And maybe pretender rebels dynasty could be effected by that. perhaps countrys ruled by families with over 5 in a country not ruled by that family anymore might get a claim on the throne causis beli. no worries.

and one this was written for

Could monarchs and heirs not have a religion value, just a small thing with maybe a small modifer for say a protestant king in a catholic country ot visa-versa, and maybe events could change it and certainly a lot of modders could use it for a wealth of events.
The prospect of a heretic heir was one of vital importance during the era and a good half of a the conflicts were on account of it. Just a simple relgion=#### is the same manner as female=yes turns up now and then and could come from any conversion-ready religion present in the state and also by events, [Your son has converted against you da-de-duh] and im not saying create the events as thatd be work, but if monarchs and heirs had in their history entry a religion it would open the doors to alot of possibilities, many of which a number of mods attempted for IN but failed due to the mechanics, not they are almost there and one small thing, or atleast i imagine itd be a very small thing would let them happen right.
Itd be a gift to the modding community and well, it is christmas.

I've been for the idea of linking dynasties to succession. IMHO it should be incorporated with the current system, dynasties receiving a decent weight toward personal union chances and inheritance.

In fact, I think there is a lot of potential to add further depth to dynasties altogether. . .

At the very least countries linked through the same dynasty should receive some yearly relationship increase, though a more significant effect of sharing a dynasty (as the one suggested) would certainly make things even more interesting.

I agree. Something more should be done for dynasties, heirs and rulers. Personally, I'd like the ability to see all your heirs and select which you want to inherit. ie: if you have a bastard as an heir and the he is supplanted by a legitimate heir, I suggest the ability to click on the heir and see the potential rival claimants. If you select one there should be %options that will occure upon succession - similar to the current setup of efects when changing policies - ie: 10% chance pretender named Bob Habsburg rises, 40% stability drops by 1, 50% chance nothing happens.

I agree with the request for modifiers/flags attached to rulers/heirs. ie: Franz Joseph I von Habsburg - catholic = yes, piety = 6 (out of say 10) etc...

It would also be nice if there were modifiers/flags for dynasties, making some more desireable than others for acheiving different strategies. ie: von Habsburg dynasty gives all rulers +1 diplomatic skill; de Bourbon dynasty gives +2 stability investment per month, etc...

On the surface your proposal looks good, but would the additions of tracking every previous dynasty and its potential to re-appear slow the game down?

The only things I would really like to see out of the dynasty system is to designate them for specific cultures, and for religions within those cultures. If all they did was add that, I would be more than happy.

i dont see how it would, dont know much about how computers work but the game records province decisions and every battle and that doesnt cause trouble. But anyway thats the most minor of the three suggestions, realism but no actual improvement to gameplay and mechanics as are the other too. anyway thanks for the interest and hope one of the patches stumbles across it during a moment of uninspired boredom and curiosity.
