I bought EuIII complete on a CD (I prefer that) but HTTT is download only. Ok I think, let me get it through Impulse, since I own already some Stardock games. I buy it, then open Impulse and HTTT is there. Fine. I try to download it, but Impulse asks me for the IN location. Ok, I find it for the program. Impulse accepts it, but then does not see the patchlevel. I ignore this, since I did not buy Complete through Impulse.
But then, when I try to download HTTT, I got a strange "no space on harddisk" error! I have 10GB on a disk and 20GB on the other... the errorlog says:

-- [16.12.09 9:45:30 PM] ----------------------------------------------------
Context: General
Message: Not enough free space on the hard drive for this download. Not enough space on drive for this install. Free space:0 Total drive size: 0 install size: 84141662 plus a 500MB buffer for other downloads. Space after install: -608429662. Check C:\ drive.
Build #: 1309

-- [16.12.09 9:45:31 PM] ----------------------------------------------------
Context: Problem starting download...
Message: Not enough space on the drive for this install. Check the Impulse error log for more information.
Build #: 1309

So is there anyone who can give me a hint? Impulse never gave me any problem with Stardock games...

Firstly, you should post this in the tech support forum. You're registered, so that shouldn't be a problem. Secondly, have you checked with Impulse if the problem is on their end?

If the Impulse version of HttT requires an Impulse version of EU3/IN, then there's not much we can do. You should ask for your money back from Impulse and buy the game from GG instead.

About posting on Tech Support: I thought about that, but then I thought that it might be a problem on Stardock side, so Paradox tech support would not know what to do. I hoped to capitalize on the fresh experience of other players using Impulse too, and let everybody know of a possible reason NOT to go the Impulse way. I mean, who read the tech support BEFORE buying a game?

I went to the Impulse forum and posted there, too. Apparently I am not the only one with the issue. On a thread there was the suggestion from Stardock people to contact their tech support per E-mail. I did that, and now I wait for an answer.

I got the first reply from Stardock support, where they ask me to provide the errorlog (sure) as well as a rather invasive diagnostic of my computer, including the DirectX one. Uh? No thanks. I mean, I just need to download an expansion installer! A 20MB file!

So my question to the community now is: how do I ask my money back? I guess I will try to buy it from Gamersgate, since I believe that it actually does what I expect: download a single 20Mb file, without exploring every nook and cranny of my home computer.

Extra rant: I do not like online releases because they get too much into my privacy. I want to buy a game and give money for it. With the online system I also have to give a VISA or paypal number, my name, address, telephone number and E-mail. I am not pleased with this, but I can leave with it - I will just buy less games, only the ones I feel I will play for a long time (there isn't many). Then not only the donwload does not work (into the 3rd day of fasting-unto-death now) but the customer support asks me for naked photos of my chubby computer! What's next, the Fashion Polizei knocking at my door?

Why won't you give them a dxdiag? It is just your computer configuration, you can remove the name of the computer if you want. Then the dxdiag is perfectly generic. I answer support questions a lot, and many times the dxdiag is a huge help.
Obviously it is not the space on your hard drive that is the problem, but they might be able to pick up on some other oddity that can cause this.

Or you could of course ask for a refund. The procedure then is to go through where you bought it, so contact Impulse again.

I can understand the need for dxdiag when installing. Impulse though stops at the downloading phase. I mean, a password-protected download would suffice! If it does not, it is probably because Impulse itself is a rather invasive and badly written program.

I am irked by this "bug" experience. But the issue in the end is my privacy. As I mentioned in my previous post, the more a store tries to get within it, the less I want to buy from it.

Ok, I found the refund rules. By not complying with Support I lose 25% of the price. Unpleasant, but I can survive that. Now my question is: how can I unregister my current, unworking copy of HTTT? Since soon enough I will have a new, working one...

I had the same issue, and found a work around.

Download the game as though you were going to install it, wait for the error message, and then exit impulse. Find your "temporary files" folder, and find where it downloaded the HTTT files, and just copy and past those into your EU3 directory.

Unfortunetly I'm possitive this will lead to issues with patching in the future, so I'm still waiting on tech support to help me out. From what I've heard it's a common problem.

This is precisely the problem: no download. Zero. NADA. The directory is empty.

Thanks Shuriken - your solution worked for me, although the game launcher no longer works (a minor point). 5 days since I contacted Stardock tech support and no response at all from them yet. Not exactly covering themselves with glory.

I am happy that some people found a workaround.

I slept over the issue and decided to give some more time to Stardock since they are (or used to be) a customer-friendy company. No progress so far. My patience is running out and my feelings are growing colder with any new dawn...

Stardock support and you: DIY

I was able to find a workaround too!

I moved my Impulse download and archive directory to the C: drive (previously on D: ) and I managed to get the download, but not the installation. I copied the downloaded files manually over the EUIII directory and the game appears to work.

There is still a glich insofar I get a wrong cheksum (CGIA instead of WURS) and a reported version 4.0a, while it should be 4.0b. It is no beta, since I can play the grand campaign.

Still, Stardock does not reply. Abysmally crappy customer support just before Christmas, a sure way to gain trust right?

The GG, Impulse and Steam versions are all different checksums, sadly. Hopefully this will be fixed in the first patch.
