I am playing as Austria. My first game I've played since before Wealth of Nations. Unfamiliar with alot of the changes. With that being said i had no idea they changed the HRE mechanics. Use to be when you released a vassal who is a prince of the HRE it didn't cost you a relationship slot just as long as you didn't Royal Marry them. Just released Bar as a vassal and it says they are costing me a relationship slot as a leading vassal. Gonna have to break ties with em. So when i get to the second to last imperial reform what is going to happen? I'll have like negative 20 diplo points a month gained? Oh well, just annoyed cause i had this whole Austria campaign of a million vassals planned out :) looks like back to Aggressive expansion city, *sigh*

P.S. since when do i need imperial authority to enforce religious unity?

Strange cause i am pretty sure that was how i built my imperial authority back up after heretic princes sap it all
Enforcing religious unity always cost 1 IA, but it used to give IA too depending on the size of the prince. With patch 1.7, enforce religious unity no longer gives IA so that's why.

Well dang, that really sux. So why bother enforcing religious unity? Seems like a waste of imperial authority now. Changes like these to core game mechanics discourage me from playing.

Enforcing religious unity before was a means to gain IA. Thats gone. Then again HRE members of different religion have the -40 Heretic modifier to you, thus forcing you to gain more IA before being able to pass "Erbkaisertum" and "revoke privilege". On another note you can pass those two privileges normally by adding all your territory outside HRE to the HRE and by releasing some vasalls from your land afterwards. So those two reforms can be passed in one day.

There are NO really other options than doing that, or how exactly u want get IA ? , from making defensive war or force one or 2 provinces from outside HRE Members will not get you enough IA for Reforms. The new system shows again the incompetence of Pdx , making changes without unterstanding what happens and how it changes the game.

? Diplo-enforce religion has been changed to zero IA gain. And Princes now run wild switching religion by times. Even when you have one prince changing its religion to your wants - once another ruler drops in, they regularly switch back again. Crazy game - basically a fast HRE to "revoke privileges" is impossible it seems.

(Actually what I am testing atm).

Hmmm... I am not sure it's possible at all now. I got fed up with the new changes to the HRE and started a Venice campaign. Year 1650 and the Austrian emperor has not passed one single reform. Austria has been re-elected everytime. It would seem that removing the IA from religious unity has broken the HRE. Definetly for the AI and perhaps for players as well.

Its possible - already did it in 1.7. But it was a grind compared to the runs before (building up 45-50 IA and *boom* some princes, some wars, you are at 0-10 IA two months later). It feels as if Paradox did it only to spoil a successfull Austria experience (Austria being my focus country atm). Maybe that wasnt their reasoning, but it feels that way.

I was hoping for the opposite, that they would fix it so the AI completes more reforms and actually adds provinces and countries to the empire. In my current game Austria is still the emperor and they have half a dozen provinces they could add to the empire and thats 6 IA right there. But nope year 1700 now and Austria has yet to pass a reform and they generally sit at around zero authority. This sux.

Well as of 1.8 enforcing religious unity gives IA once again. Releasing HRE princes as vassals does not.
