How is it immersion breaking? Just because youre Chinese doesn't mean the HRE doesn't exist

Non Sequitur. Allow me to rephrase a little. Just because you're Chinese doesn't mean the HRE is important. Why should it be? It'd be as relevant to them as a surviving Byzantine Empress being pro or anti iconoclast.

Regardless, I get it. EU series wants the player to explore and obsess with the HRE, seemingly. 'Play any nation in the world as long as the HRE is somehow meaningful to you because we're going to remind you constantly with the UI'.

I'll pass on that, thanks. Little square of electrical tape to the rescue!

Cheers.

The HRE is always happening, unless it's been dismantled. Other than Japan and North American federations it's the only supra-national entity with special mechanics. Yes, you do want to have access to the information, whether it's presented as a tiny icon in the corner of the screen or not. "Having access to the HRE screen" is not the same as "obsess about the HRE". What a ridiculous notion.

No, no, no. I don't. For the love of Pete somebody tell me why I should want access to something that has no bearing on role-playing a nation's interests (outside of western europe)? One can make houserules about not consulting the ledger for info, but one cannot have a successful houserule about not glancing at the lower right of screen. It's absurd.

This is where we're at loggerheads, champ - you're not grasping the roleplay aspect of this whole affair.

... pigheaded contrarianism

I like that. The syllables melt together like a hob-nob in scalding hot tea. Thank you.

And you apparently are not grasping the words that I'm using. If the information was in the ledger, and the icon was gone—i.e., the exact thing I proposed, which is the exact thing you seem to want—you could ignore it to your heart's content, whether you're roleplaying or not. Remind me why you're arguing with me again?

At this point you're clearly trolling, because A) you obviously understand English; B) I've been expressing myself with perfect clarity; C) the responses you have made are not the words of someone who is responding in good faith.

If I was RP'ing a nation, say the Ottomans or the Mamlukes, I would sure as hell be interested in the possible unification of the entirety of central Europe (particularly if that formation managed to include Italy). Anything that has such a huge bearing on Mediterranean politics would be of interest to a Muslim sultan.

I can't believe we're arguing about a small icon in the bottom right of the screen.

If I'm roleplaying as pretty much anybody in the Mediterranean, or Near East, I'd be fairly concerned with the politics of central Europe.

I mean, unless your playing a Ghengis Khan, or Timur style game then I suppose you've no need for diplomacy. Otherwise, the situation of that Decentralized state in the center of Europe should be of great concern, mostly because everybody in the Med should be keeping that region decentralized.

To address the icon issue, for real? Its a small inconsequential icon in the lower left corner. I've spent the better part of the last two weeks trying to play as Najd and I've not once clicked on it, or even noticed it. You make it sound like every game revolves around the HRE, but that simply isn't true. I've played plenty of games where I completely ignored the HRE. Why you seem to think every game revolves around the Empire is bizarre.

Help! I'm being oppressed! :glare:

Why you seem to think every game revolves around the Empire is bizarre.

Well, it must be, because there's a fixed, non-toggle-able bloody icon to remind me of the HRE's terminally boring business. No other historical entity has such a unique permanent feature, aside from the Chinese factions afaik (which does make perfect sense).

Thus, clearly, all these years since my retail box of EU II (the musical tour-de-force that it was), I have utterly misunderstood the series itself as it could probably have been titled 'Holy Roman Empire Universalis' from the get-go and remains thus today.

Still ... despite ...it's a great little game is this, and one little annoyance is not likely to detract so much from the overall experience. You can't please all of the people all of the time can you?

Salut.
