Hey guys, playing a game as Britain just now. War has broken out, and i'm making preparations for the inevitable DOw from Italy, the RAF are smacking Hitler's bombers out the skies like knats, but its only April 1940, France hasn't even been invaded yet so the real Battle of Britain is yet to come :) .

I will have a total of 34 divisions deployed along the Libyan boarder, ready to make a push into the Italian colony.

I currently have one HQ stationed there, and i'm about to send over my last group of troops. The final total as mentioned above will be 34 divisions. I have a second HQ sitting in Britain, would it be beneficial to send the 2nd HQ to Africa too in order to aid the advance, because with that many divisions, i'm guessing one HQ may not be enough yeah??

Some advice if someone would be so kind?? :p

Also station 4 airbornes and transports at malta;)
Use these to capture their supply base close to the french side. Makes it a quick and easy victory. Although since you're allready in april 1940 I'm guessing you probably don't have the time to get this ready.

But I think you'll only need one HQ though since you don't spread out much in libya, but may come in handy later when invading Italy :D

Well, I'll give things a go with one HQ in North Africa. Germany has at long last begun their war against the low countries and will soon begin pushing into France at some point I imagine. I've had the Home Fleet out and about on occasion trying to make it difficult for the German's to land in Norway, so far it has worked. But I've pulled the Home Fleet back to Scapa Flow after a nasty encounter with some German bombers....no ships were sunk, but a brand new G3 battlecrusier was NEARLY sunk and several other ships damaged.

The Luftwaffe makes trips out near the German coast a risky business indeed. Well, we shall see how things goes with this campaign of mine nonetheless :D

A HQ doubles the effective amount of troops when attacking, and it does so for all provinces adjacent to it. So one HQ is usually enough for three provinces in a line with 24 divisions in each of them, totalling 72 divisions. Of course you'll need a field marshall in each of those three provinces...

Whether it's beneficial to add another HQ is not as much a question of troop numbers as it is a question of the planned frontline. If you will keep advancing along a strip of land no more than three provinces wide (as you probably will, considering the geography in Northern Africa), then one HQ in the central province of the frontline will be enough. If you plan on striking along a broader front or at several provinces far away from each other, then if you want to use more than 12 divisions per province another HQ might be beneficial.

In short:
One HQ should be more than enough for Northern Africa.

Hey guys, my offensive into North Africa has been progressing well thus far :) I created a 7 division pocket in Tobruk and forced their surrender, and Italian troops retreating from Derna also became trapped and surrendered. With the Mediterranean fleet camped outside Tobruk, what few Transports Italy tried to get in and out were promptly sunk by the Royal Navy :)

Thing's are not going well for Italy in Africa, the loss of those divisions I think in truth has actually been the nail in the coffin for them. But we'll see ;)

Anyway, the heart of this post. My HQ that i'm using in Africa, I haven't engaged it in any battles. It is commanded by my only Field Marshal that I have. Do my troops still get the benefit of the HQ in adjacent & same provinces....or does the HQ actually need to be IN combat in a battle for the bonus's to be taken into account??

Cheers guys....here's a screenie of how things look....now onward to Bengazi next :)

Yeah, intel on the enemy is a must!!

I think I am researching such techs just now infact :) So that's what those techs do....allow you to see how many troops an enemy has on your boarder?? :)

Yes, plus you get a penalty or bonus when your encrypt/decrypt techs are worse/better than your enemie's... ;)

About the lone HQ: It is slightly more beneficial to use the HQ in combat, say with a stack of 5 infantry divisions (1HQ 5Inf). This way all five inf divs would get the Field Marshal's trait and skill bonusses. Of course that is only applicable when the HQ commander is actually good (which is not quite true for yours). Why don't you just promote a good Lt.G to General or even to Field Marshal? Each promotion only costs one skill point which will be recovered when the leader in question gains experience...

:)

Well, I have considered promoting a general to Field Marshal, but then i'm not sure how long it takes to re-accumulate skill points.

In my time, around 1940, it's September, there's only been Denmark and Norway invasion, becuase I lent them other provinces, they haven't been annexed. So France, bElgium and Netherlands are still intact and so is Yugoslavia and Greece. No Italy in Axis either. What's gone wrong?

Might be because of that Norway and denmark still lives, not sure though;)

Well Denmark and Poland do. I thought I saved Norway, then they got annexed. Should I let them be annexed?

you should try and keep them alive, but I think the AI won't go after france full on without having annexed poland and Denmark.

But not sure, propably have to wait for a more experienced player to come along and answer this.

Denmark has been annexed in my game, Norway hasn't. France has fallen though, and i'm shoving the Italians out of Africa. So, all is going well :)
