For all bar the first month after release, I have Ironman OFF (but always with AI Bonuses on). I only want AI advantages to apply against me, NOT against minor AI nations.
I would never Savescum anyway... How shallow do you have to be to want to cheat in SP. Mistakes, particularly recovering from them, can be a fun learning experience. If not, GREAT! I get to start another game.
PS Part of the whole 'trying not to be shallow' thing, is that I've learned not to care that 22 achievements are all I'm ever going to have.

Addicted to Extended timeline mod, which I am also helping to develop. I cannot play without it now, I think it's just a bit boring that everyone begins in 1444. Each of my campaigns i started at different years both before and after 1444. So it's non ironman for me
Ironman. Its just more thrilling as I can't just experiment but have to stay focused, plan wisely, always waiting for the right moment to strike.....The game just feels more real.
Ironman. Just knowing that I can't just load when I screw up usually makes me play better.
I only play Ironman if I want to get a specific achievement, if not I play without it but I mostly stick to multiplayer.
I like mods way too much to use Ironman.
Hell, most of my achievements were earned during a brief period where there was a beta (1.6.1.1 and I think it continued into 1.6.1.2, but not the one after that) that allowed Ironman (and achievements) with mods.
Give me achievement-free Ironman with mods and I'll gladly use it. Until then, not bothering.
