How did you first find Hearts of Iron?

How I did:
One day in middle of April I was bored and searching for maps when there was a picture of this mysterious "Kaiserreich" thing so I googled it and up came this video game called Hearts of Iron 2. I saw there was a sequel so I browsed the website and finally downloading a demo. I was hooked but the demo was kinda disappointing so a week or two later I bought the full game.:blush::blush::blush::blush::blush::blush::blush::happy::happy::happy:

Many years ago while I was bored at home and searching for a strategy game which has complexity in it I saw HOI2 and decided to try it.I still do not forget my reaction when I first opened the game.It took me an hour to understand the hiearchy and what buttons do how system works resarch, espionage etc.

After that I never let it go :D :D :D

Some years I ago I found the first edition of Europa Universalis III in a store for bargain. I bought it and said to my father who saw the package "I know what is a good game". Later on I just learned that Paradox had made a game about WW2 also - it was very easy to find HoI3 then.

Learning the game was though a bit more difficult...

I spotted the original HOI in a video game store years ago, and bought it on a whim. Aside from the surprising amount of freedom, flexibility, and sheer amount of units to control, it was really a terrible game, and it really didn't make a whole lot of sense why GER had to re-research WWI equipment again from scratch. I ended up trading it back in, and eventually forgot about it. Years later, I saw something about HOI2 needing "the usual" patching, and a lot of historical players seemed to actually LIKE the game, so I suspected that many of the problems with the first game were probably resolved in similar patches. When 3 was released, I decided to check it out AFTER the mandatory patch, which it turns out was still WAY premature, since it really wasn't "playable" until the 1.3 and 1.4 patches.

Many years ago, I came to Denmark one summer and my brother and I used to search the electronics shops for games on sale. I found HOI2 and bought it. I got hooked on HOI2 and bought all the expansions as they came out (Doomsday, Armageddon, AoD, DH).

I spent some time playing with the files and found out about "modding" which brought me to the forum. Here I heard about all other paradox games, which pushed me to buy EU3 in a local shop.

Unfortunately the game didn't work on my computer for some reason, which brought me back to the HOI2 franchise.

When I got a new computer I got hooked on EU3 and even bought some copies for friends. Then I suddenly became a true Paradoxian and now I try all their games and buy the ones I like the most :)

Got the HoI demo in the summer of 2002. Owned EU but really didn't care for the time period.

Beat Germany as Poland a few times, beat Poland as Germany... bought full game that November.

Haven't looked back since. Haven't bought an EU game since then either.

If it wasn't for these forums I wouldn't have had TFH, or Vicky 2. I won't buy EU4 atm because waiting for the price to drop and for HOI4 to come out in 2015 when I have a real reason to join Steam.

Mine came from watching my greek housemate at the time playing HoI2 on his laptop. I errr borrowed his version for evaluation and the next day gamergated Doomsday and very soon EU3 and the rest is history.

Now I seem to buy several copies of every paradox game, EU3 I bought twice, Hoi3 too (steam convienence is worth £7 to me). I didn't even play Hoi3 for 2 years because its initial release was so broken even after throwing £30 at it (but I don't moan about it - given paradox are the only company making deep pc strategy games). Now I've logged hundreds of hours on HoI3 alone.

Eventually I will get EUIV but I'm self resisting buying more games when my backlog is silly.

Something like one month after HoI3's release, I came down to this forum and scrolled through 5 pages of rage. I figured I'll go against the crowd once more and bought it. It wasn't that bad, though add-ons made it much better.
