Just wondering what people think how the changes in NA as seen in the last 2 DDs will affect colonization?

The most simple effect is imo, more tags leads to quicker colonization through conquest. At least for the player, not sure how the AI can handle it in its current state.

But what about the other changes? I do not know if federations will now become more of a threat to colonizers. That natives can't burn colonies any more and instead have to win a war against a european is certainly a bummer but I don't think the AI has used this ability anyway? So it would only affect a player in NA and I guess he would like to conquer anyway if he has the chance. So I am not sure if burning colonies was used anyway in the current meta.

Vassalization of tribes will probably become a lot more lucrative if they keep their tribal development and if it can somehow be used when annexed. On the other hand, who cares about the development of colonial nations anyway?

The new impassable terrain in the Appalachians will hopefully slow down colonization past the Eastern seaboard. Barring that, it might make it more likely that the power that colonizes Canada will be the one that reaches down into the Great Lakes region while the East Coast colonizer gets bogged down in the mountains - recreating the dynamic that existed in the 17th and 18th Centuries between Britain and France.

One thing to not about Federations is that the changes announced today will probably make them more stable - hopefully translating to more entrenched resistance to colonial powers.

On the subject of colonials annexing native countries, I thought I read in one of Groogy's replies to a player's comment in a recent dev diary that annexing a migratory nation will not actually destroy the nation, but cause it to migrate to an adjacent province (if possible presumably). If I read this correctly, that will mean that even as Old Worlders colonize America, plenty of Native American nations will be waiting and colonizing in the West to resist their expansion.

My pretty sure-fire guess is that colonization will not change one bit, aka whichever AI discovers a region first will colonize it and so will the next without any regard to existing colonies or natives in the region. This will then lead for the usual checkerboard of mostly yellow and green all over the place interspersed with sometimes more red than blue and occasionally a random orange or other minor color mixed with natives. If the CN considers natives too strong they’ll never attack them, nor other CN and that’s that it then for the race for North or any America. There will never be an AI vs AI dominance struggle over colonies so, more tags, more provinces more flavor. That’s it.
