Will it be linked to Moral Authority (or an equivalent mechanic) or will there be a different system? I'm hoping the latter as the former used to limit playing alternative history with faith in CK2. A lot of religions were no go areas because it was near impossible to convert your counties to them. For example, playing a Monophysite England or an Italian Manichean as both those faiths have Holy Sites almost at the other side of the map and you could have very little impact on the MA of your faith.

We'll have to wait for next week most likely, but since it's the general trend they're going in. They will likely move it away from RNG to a system like EU4, or you wait a certain amount of time for a tick, and that tick has a chance of giving conversion progress like with the schemes.

I hope that the preacher's skills and possibly traits may affect the results a little more than the moral authority reputation, which many locals of the relevant province may not even be aware of. I think moral authority should remain in the game, but not be as prohibitive to success, as I doubt Tuistic villagers in Sweden might be much aware, if at all, of all of the holy sites controlled by Roman Catholicism, while somebody preaches to them, most likely glossing over those difficult-to-communicate points in their interactions with the inhabitants of the province. Moral authority could have slightly less of a hold against success, in my opinion, although it should still represent an impact, as some more educated inhabitants would be aware of the other religion to certain extents.

Probably quite similar to CK2 except you have a progress bar instead of a random chance.
Theology isn’t just about your own faith, however. It’s also about how much better it is than every other faith. If you’re going to be doing a lot of conversion, give the Theologian tree a look:

Probably something like this, however the picture below is probably about fabricating a claim, but as can seen that action in CK2 would be based on random chance have now become a progress thing.
