i supose it is a kind of specialised unit in guerilla warfare rather than hte weak militia.

What is your idea computer?

As it stands right now they specialize in certain events and have a lower org, use almost no supplies to maintain. What defines the difference mainly between the types now are the events.

The philosophy of guerilla warfare is hit and run attacks. hide, wait, ambush, run. the main way of combat is hiding and ambushing, so what i thought you could do,if this is possible, is have the guerilla infantry travel through enemy terretiories with having a chance to be seen or not seen so this way the can travel through the enemy lines, but not too far or else they get cut off. The viet cong did just that. they had viet cong influence inside south vietnam where the nva couldnt reach. since ship and planes use the same method i was hoping you could do this with infantry. ive got some other ideas but im pretty sure those wont work

Is it possible to set their surprise to be very high? That'd kinda do it fairly well.

Lothos, what countries do you have set to be using them? I think that'd give me a better idea of what you're aiming for.

One thing I found weird and somewhat disappointing was the fact that guerrilla infantry had more tech levels than most standard infantry types in the TRP tech tree. Also, shouldn't guerrilla warfare realistically be more doctrinal than technical? Surely there must be a better way of implementing guerrillas other than placing them alongside the likes of infantry, airborne, marines and mountain in the tech tree?

IMO guerrillas tech should ideally be tied to infantry (possibly mountain) tech level with an added guerrilla doctrine to unlock the troop type.

yes, i agree. not only will it be more realistic, it will also add a whole lot of freedom and strategy, which this game doesnt have much of. (freedom that is.) ussually a country needs to go a predestined path ex:germany not being able to research grand battle plan doctrine

I am not sure what you mean by more than the others? Guerilla Warfare countries have less techs to research overall and they perform better in the mountains etc.... so I am not sure what you are refering to.

Thanks for replying. I know you're a busy man these days.

I'm referring to the New Infantry Tech Tree screenshot posted on the TRP site which have Guerrilla Infantry listed alongside the standard infantry types. Guerrilla Infantry is listed with advances from Great War (blanked out) to Semi-modern, via Early, Basic, Improved and Advanced. Six to seven tech levels, where as Airborne, Marines and Mountain only have four (Basic to Advanced).

As a former professional soldier with international service in multiple foreign scenatios I feel the Guerrilla Infantry isn't warranted a place alongside regular (vanilla) types. My suggestion was to redo the whole thing, remove Guerrilla Infantry from that tech tree and replace it with a Guerrilla Warfare doctrine that would, when researched, unlock Guerrilla Infantry units of a level equal to either standard infantry or mountain infantry of that country.

As such Guerrillas could even be made available to countries other that those you originally intended them for. Yoguslavia and Soviet springs to mind as these had a lot of partisan activity during the second world war. In fact, most countries would potentially utilize such methods defensively.

Which brings us back to the original topic of the thread; how will guerrillas work? You've divulged they're regular infantry units (I assume they can be led by regular commanders), with lower org, that use almost no supplies to maintain but with combat bonuses in certain terrains. All very well, will they be able to move similar to other infantry units or be more static like garrisons? When defeated, will they withdraw or be destroyed? How cost effective will they be compared to militia, garrisons or regular infantry?

Download and Play TRP first before you can comment on what is wrong with the tech tree please. There are reasons why it was done that way which if you played you would then understand.
