Reading in the dev diary about the northern expansion option made me wonder how japan was planning to supply it's troops in Siberia. Especially if they would move deep in Siberia far away from the coast, does it seem a nightmare to supply your army. Living of the land could only supply a very small amount of troops, especially during Siberia's LONG winter. Stalin would off course encourage guerrilla attacks against Japan's supply lines.

Was their any realistic plan to supply the troops during a long campaign deep in Siberia?

Let's assume that Japan can avoid war with all other countries, it's just japan vs USSR.

Japan vs. Russia in guerilla tactics I am giving Japan the advantage.

But, I would assume they would continue the infrastructure work that the USSR was already doing. They have a major port on the east coast, and a few rail lines - although nothing nearly big enough to supply a major offensive. Perhaps the "northern expansion" focus line should also reduce infrastructure building costs?

The Japanese High Command and Government was not known for its realism. There was a significant withdraw of troops from China to the Siberian front in 1941 after the Germans launched Barbarossa, but the only real arguments for a war with the Soviets was a) to honor the Axis Pact (although the pact never stated that another ally was obliged to join the others in an offensive war) and b) to eliminate the threat of Bolshevism which had loomed just north of Japan for decades. I don't think that there was any serious planning of the logistics or strategies of a Russian war, as the Japanese did have a tendency of rushing into engagements without much thought. The China War was certainly not planned, as the military saw an opportunity to push further into China and PM Prince Konoe simply did not intervene. The occupation of South Indochina also was a grievous error that was not discussed enough before it was executed. Even the war with the US, although the strategy for the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the occupation of Malaysia and the Philippines were meticulously drawn out, the government and especially the military refused to consider the repercussions of war with the Allies.

As far as food goes, generally the Japanese soldiers were expected to feed themselves based on what they could find.

I think a japanese invasion of Siberia would not go further than Vladivostok and Magadan. I also see no reason to do so as well. I don't think it's gonna be that nighmarish to suplly it,it may be big but it has only a few important cities, also viable infrastructure.

They could build supply depots in Manchuria to supply it. However, the Japanese weren't big on armored cars and vehicles, so they would've needed to import a lot from Germany (who didn't have enough to give away in the first place). The japs didn't plan on occupying Russia up past lake Baykal either.

Edit: I forgot that there's no supply depots in the game anyways, so this could be an issue :D

You mean, Soviet offencive in1945 was not major offencive ;)
You mean there were no major offencives in 1905 Russian-Japanese war?

There was capacity to supply anything sizes from slightly downsized Barbarossa and below.

Russians had both stronger army and better airforce. Chance to blockade anything with navy are close to none. In fact, Soviets could do Us style bombings from bases they already had, if they would be willing to develop B-17 analougue.
