How was it decided to give Cohh a review copy?

Regardless, I stream, I was an early backer, all of us were early backers. i do not think it was right AT ALL that it got an early review copy, and I REFUSE to watch his stream and want to find out the game by myself. HBS, you guys made a mistake here. I am actually pretty upset about this.

I dream of the day where very opinioned forum posters learn the basic differences between developer and publisher...

Paradox would of given out the keys, not HBs. Because Paradox is bringing the game to market (IE, responsible for marketting, distribution and promotion)......

Cohh has a pretty good reputation as a streamer as well. He's not afraid to critique the game if there are flaws and means what he says.

So for example for me who has never heard of the game or the franchise, if I see him have fun and say its fun, I take his word for it. I believe him because he's playing the game as I would, a newcomer going through all the learning curves from the start. Now a veteran with 20 years experience and knowledge of all the mechanics might make me think this game is probably not for me( too difficult, out of sync with lore, etc).

Yeah, thats what I hate about listening to a meta player with tons of experience. They basically send you into a game with a very preconceived notion and idea on how to play the game. You wind up skipping, missing, or ignoring a large number of different combos or play styles, as you try to 'be all you can be' or at least try not to be a 'noob'. When in actuality, alot of different methods work and will work just fine, you just gotta find your niche.

Cohh's stream of BT, yeah, he gives just a solid play through of the game, you get to sit back and watch the whole gambit of screw ups, face palm moments, general gameplay.....yup, it was fun watching his streams and im still not done, only on like video 21 of over 30 I have seen in my YT feed.

I really like Cohh's streams, and I'm an older guy who first gamed on an Atari 2600, and never thought would watch a video of someone else playing a video game.

He's a funny and pleasant guy, and IMO his streams really make the game look great.

He's fast-paced enough to keep the people not into the minutiae of BT engaged. Yet he appreciates and is visibly awestruck by the depth and detail of the game. So he keeps things moving -- but also shows that, hey kids, there's some deep, deep stuff here that you should get into.

I was really disappointed by those comments essentially complaining why someone so "bad" is allowed to play the game. This franchise is not where it should be treated as some arcane lore, with only the properly initiated let in.

Yeah, im about tired as hell of the PVP Elitist scum attitude so many gamers take anymore....

Its legit like PVP is the King of the old feudal times and everyone lesser is the peasent scum, meant to serve the PVP lords.....

To much ego in gaming anymore, honestly makes it quite frustrating to even want to play games.

Honestly my first impression of Cohh was that he knows how games usually work and quickly figured how a lot of stuff works. There have been way worse players in HBS streams before.
This also says a lot about how intuitive the UI in game is. Definitely seems beginner friendly.

For me it's interesting that everything is based on GoG.
Is that a sign that Paradox and/or HBS want to cuddle wit GoG?
I'm not sure 'a guy' counts as 'everything'

Most of the official announcements in this forum are pretty store neutral,,and the kickstarted update references steam.

I have really been enjoying Cohh's BattleTech videos on YouTube. I think he very entertaining to watch and he seems to be getting the hang of it pretty quickly. Because of these videos, I have subscribed to his channel and am going to check out more of his content after this.

If the thread is about one guy then yes it's everything.

I think you misunderstand what's unusual abaut this.
It's not that they play the GoG version. It that they seemingly got the keys from GoG and not Paradox/HBS.
I also don't count DFA and NGNG because both have direct ties to HBS.

We are only left with Cohh, the German and the Russian guy.

From what i understand Cohh and the German got the keys from GoG.
For the Russian I don't know.

Paradox has good connections to a little swarm of streamers that would happily play the game (and probably will get keys about a week in advance).
But instead GoG connected Streams got preference.

So for my Part , as an Swiss / European i learnd 4 Languages in BASIC-School.

We learn our Swiss-German Dialect (we have araound 25 of them in our Country + French+ Italian and Rhatorumantsch).
So the local spoken dialect is hardly to understand for an German (most don`t) so i count it as an own "Language". Then we learn the Basic-German (Standard), we call it "Hoch-Deutsch".

The first other Language we learn is FRENCH. For everyone in! -> I hate this Language. And after that you can choose to learn Italian/Spanish or English!

So for my, i speak Swissgerman, German, English and French. And i can watch Movies in every one ^^

The reason why CohhCarnage was given a pre-release copy of the game is because he is the best BattleTech player in the world! Dekker will attest to that.

There's a big difference between being capable of basic communication and being fluent enough to enjoy a game/movie/tv series in a different language. I don't think that the majority of german players will stick with the english version. Most of us that are usually do so because localization have always been all over the place. Battletech products have been decent in the past but they have their quirks. Some others are unplayble. Looking at YOU Bethesda:

I apologize, I was being a bit tongue in cheek. It is of course totally reasonable to want to play the game in one’s native tongue. :)

I usually hate everything translated to Finnish as there can be so strange terms that I have no idea what they are supposed to mean. Much easier to use the english UI.

So which language do you play BattleTech in?

I gather the situation with localization in Europe is that speakers of the "big" languages (French, German, Italian, Spanish) have got accustomed to having localized versions. The same with TV, with the audio track dubbed.

Meanwhile, us in the smaller countries (I'm Finnish) have got used to playing the original English versions. I think it becomes a self-perpetuating cycle where we're continuously subjected to more English, and out of necessity, get used to managing with it.

(PS. You're right about Swiss vs. High German. Several years back I went to supermarket in Bern. While my wife -- a native speaker of High German -- was paying, the sales clerk unleashed an entirely unintelligible avalanche of phonemes. My wife smiled politely and paid. After we left the supermarket she started laughing as she finally understood the clerk had asked "Haben Sie Bonuskarte?")

No worries, I wasn't offended I just misse dthe tongue in cheek (Yes, yes I know, germans and their sense of humor:p)

And to be fair, nowadays we start to learn english in elementary school and for many jobs it is a hard requirement. Not only technical ones and tourist industry, sometimes you're not going to be a McDonalds cashier without speaking at least basic english. It's just a skill you lose quickly if you don't use it and most people will never reach a level where they can enjoy a game or an episode of GoT in anything but their native tongue.
