I dont know. They grew up with german names, they didnt had english novels. And imports where something very unusual 20 years ago. Except some very few novels at the start, most of them got german names and translations. A RCT (regimental combat team) became the Regimentskampfgruppe. Draconis Combine? Draconis Kombinat. And stuff like the Warhammer is a Kriegshammer. They are really similar. But some things are very different. The 70t Penetrator is called a Lichtbringer (Lightbringer) or the Awesome, which is called Todesbote (Deathbringer), not to be confused with the Mauler-Variant Todesbote.

Just imagine you read something 15 years in your native language and now you have to relearn so many things. Not everybody does that.

I feel like the original post you quoted was made in jest, but the German translated names are actually... kind of amusing in some instances.

Hornisse is literally translated as hornet, but it's actually what they call the Stinger, and Hummel means bumblebee, but it's what they call... the Hornet.

Still, i am surprised mootality has no key and is not streaming.... But he probably would have been to expensive .

Another thing is that it is extremly good to have a stream from someone who pretends to have no idea of the game, showing clearly that anyone can play the campain without being senior balletech board gamer. That shows evryone "hey, i can do it better, let me buy the game and do it better" And assures anyone that progressing in story is possible with minimal tactics.

It's worth noting Cohh has repeatedly thanked GOG for his key, not Paradox or HBS. Given that he apparently is an affiliate where every sale made through his link with GOG, he gets some money, I'm wondering if that means it was GOG that got him the key in an attempt to drive sales on their platform. I don't think basically any Paradox games are really on GOG- certainly none of their in-house ones.

As for HyperRPG and NGNGTV, well, HyperRPG is very closely affiliated with HBS, and NGNGTV is indisputably the largest BattleTech-centered stream on Twitch, and hosts HBS's Q&As.

What? A lot of Paradox published games are on GOG. 52 entries to be precise, https://www.gog.com/games?sort=popularity&search=paradox interactive&page=1

Also even if GOG talked with Paradox and hooked up Cohh with a key to beta of release build it's still only win-win for Paradox, HBS, GOG and Cohh. Mainstream gamer reach from Cohh is really good.

Also in Cohh's defense he often encourages people to shop around for best possible deal and not to shop at e.g. GOG just so Cohh gets few dollars from made sale.

First of all, these are not review copies, that would imply that streamers are reviewers and they are not. In fact separating reviews and streams is usually pretty important if you want good reach. We are most likely going to let more people stream the early game before the general stream embargo is up. But no details right now.

With the seemingly hardcore following that's existed in Germany over the past two decades, I'm surprised that there's not a German language streamer out there (unless there is and I've missed it).

They looked at how many people he averages on his streams and decided that with a pool of almost a million followers and a lot of subscribers, he was a good choice to stream the game. He was also trustworthy to agree to the embargo and keep his word.

I'm under the impression that all Europeans speak English plus six or seven other tongues, so it's probably fine.

There's a big difference between being capable of basic communication and being fluent enough to enjoy a game/movie/tv series in a different language. I don't think that the majority of german players will stick with the english version. Most of us that are usually do so because localization have always been all over the place. Battletech products have been decent in the past but they have their quirks. Some others are unplayble. Looking at YOU Bethesda:
