How was it decided to give Cohh a review copy?

I'd personally be real surprised if this kind of question in the title line was publicly answered, it falls under probably not our business...

Though I'd also be curious to know if there are any other streamers upcoming.

Visible and known entity (what kind streamer he is etc.) must have gone far. He is up there with big names of variety streaming on Twitch, which also means a lot reach as viewer counts are very good (~14k for Battletech streams alone).

Also this possibility to play Battletech came soon after he got sponsorship deal with GOG so it's possible that GOG helped him to get hooked up with some access. Also I bet he is known by some people at Paradox thanks to Cohh putting good amount of hours into Cities: Skylines.

Once you, too, have one gajillion followers and make a living with streaming... Oh, wait, this is a chicken and the egg thing isn't it? :)

Regardless, I stream, I was an early backer, all of us were early backers. i do not think it was right AT ALL that it got an early review copy, and I REFUSE to watch his stream and want to find out the game by myself. HBS, you guys made a mistake here. I am actually pretty upset about this.

Quite a few streamers were given Stellaris copies to stream before release.
I'm not familiar with how many Surviving Mars that went out.

BT has... Two campaign streamers?
Perhaps it's due to that there are beta streamers with access to skirmish already.

I'm guessing there are roughly one million differences between you and Cohh streaming.

I actually used my Leaping Crane school of Google-Fu to get the 411 on our boy Cohh. It's actually pretty impressive, even beyond the number of followers he has. He's actually been featured in an article in The New Yorker. Appears to be a genuine hard working guy that's put in the time and is reaping his rewards. More power to him!

He has indicated that he was a Kickstarter Backer, who knows, he may have volunteered his services to HBS to help them get the word out.

I backed at jacket level. Not really a streamer though so I will somehow survive the next few weeks by living vicariously through the early streamers :)

It was probably some mutually beneficial confluence of his being a massive streamer and also a high-end backer of the game.

Folks who are getting salty about this are terminally short-sighted. More exposure for the game is good. More exposure for the game means more sales. More sales means Success. Success means more BattleTech.

*shrugs* I was an early, high cost backer too. And I am totally ok with this because it will help make a big time initial splash when it releases. Because I want "In Success..." cool stuff like the 4th SW, More Mechs, Infantry, the Andurien War, Ronin War, 3039, and the Clan Invasion.* This is the single most cost effective and -necessary- part of modern PC Game marketting. Like it or not Streamers are the thing that bring in the most word of mouth and that means new purchases from people who weren't already partof it. Like it or not, you and I weren't the target for these streams.

And frankly, I'd rather wait for the full game than a buggy review copy that doesn't even let me go through the whole game, that'd just annoy me, if not cause me to burn myself out on the early game playing it over and over.

Heck, I'm not watching either, for many reasons, but aside from lack of time the overriding one is I dont want the spoilers. I am, however, over the moon that he's generating positive buzz GALORE outside of the normal Battletech community and the consensus is the worrisome Merc Campaign portion is good (I already knew the combat was fun from the beta!)

*Note not all of these will be cool to everyone, but all of them are cool to a large number of someones!

EDIT: Also, the fact they're confident enough in the game to give it over to streamers A MONTH out is a huge sign of the game being good. Many companies don't do that, and it's often a red flag.

Perhaps I should clarify:
It's easy to see why Cohh (followers) and Bombadil (NGNG) were given copies. But why aren't there OTHER high-follower streamers who have a copy?
If the devs were going to give Cohh a copy (a great move, BTW), why not anybody else?

How much buzz outside the Mewcharrior community is there, though?

Sure, Cochh reaches some 10-15k random viewers, I've no clue what audience Bombadill has.
Where does the rest of the buzz occur?

That could be as simple as other streamers not having the slot to do another game. Or the various Marketing Partners weren't interested.

According Cohh it's full game, just not all the way polished. It's why he has embargo on campaign progress so content that devs want keep hidden stays so.

Edit: He could play whole game off stream now if he wanted to. Just to clarify.

Cohh has about a million followers. There were 10k-15k watching him live, but many many more catch his stream videos after the fact on Twitch and YouTube.

Well, anecdotal for sure. But pretty much every time I look at comments for ads for the game, or what I've heard about Cohh's stream, there's a lot of "so it's Xcom with Giant Robots? Cool!" sorts of comments. Or simple, "whoa! This looks neat. Preordering" ones. So that's a good sign!
