I have been following this game since its announcement. I was discouraged when I heard the news that a third party account would be needed, in the early development of the game, however being optimistic, and a long way from completion, I still kept an interest and hoped the GG edition would not have any DRM systems attached.
I became quite excited earlier this week when GG announced NWAC was ready for pre order. Against my better judgement I was about to pre order NWAC when I read the system requirements. Yuk!! No Civ V no SH5 and now no NWAC. Very sad, just exercising my protest rights as a customer.
I would love to own this game, but there others to play that don't force me to do what I don't need or want to do. I have only purchased a dozen or so PI games so the loss of my custom won't even be a blip on their radar. I don't expect, but would love a genuine explanation why this game, but not other PI games have a third party requirement placed on it, Please spare me with the the waste of time excuse, it is for protection against piracy, this stuff only inconveniences the paying players not the pirates.

New Relases
Sword Of the Stars 2
Defeders of Arcadia
Ck2 did but then people got all pissy
Gettysburg has it

IIRC the devs can turn off steam DRM anytime they want...any funny enough paradox does

The developers had a very limited budget and a release through Steam was the only viable option that would fit their budget as well as please the greater gamer population. A release through Steam was not for piracy prevention. As for system requirements, the desired capabilities of the game as well as the engine CPU load determine system requirements. I have a feeling the majority of NWAC fans do not want a GUI that looks like your computer's BIOS. I don't want to start a flame war, but it really makes me angry when people create threads just to complain about a game.

Excuse my ignorance, but why is it more economical for a dev to create a game via steam, is steam a development tool itself?

"I don't want to start a flame war, but it really makes me angry when people create threads just to complain about a game." Because I have dollars to spend and this forum is the best place to express my displeasure, in a polite manner about an issue that affects where i spend those dollars, I hope that doesn't make you angry as well.

Excuse my ignorance, but why is it more economical for a dev to create a game via steam, is steam a development tool itself?

It auto patches
It can check for problems wth the game installation
Retail are a tiny minority of pdox sales, so they have to waste money distributng the patches by them selves (testing compatabiity and writing auto installers)
Then pdox services 24+ distobution services(not sure if they all are digital) but then they need to sort patches to work through those distrobutors for there unique wrappers
Then steam is responsible for 80+% of paradox sales, so the 99% of the work to test and write patches are used on 20% of the games

so the question is do you want slow patches with patches lagging between distrobutors, or fast and often patches?

cba to go through johans old posts to link

Where Steam comes in is multiplayer. It has possibly the easiest-to-use multiplayer service available, and it would cost much much more for the devs to implement an MP service of their own. Plus, unless you want to use IP addresses to connect to servers, and port- forward to make your own, it would still require a third- party account. What's your problem with Steam anyway? Game development is complicated, and developers have limitations.

Goodwood2,

I looked up the old Steam whine thread for your benefit, since your message contains some misinformation I'd like to set right, and who did I find who raised this issue back then?

Do you go from forum to forum only to complain about Steam to everyone and everywhere, without listening to any arguments? Sad to say, your recent posting history on Paradox Plaza seems to indicate that is the only topic you keep talking about.

Keep the discussion to the Steam whining thread, at least.
