Diplomacy in EuIV seems very intuitv, you have your typical options but what lies behind?

At the moment it seems to me as if there is not so much i could really influence, if i play england for example it looks like as if the old continent is balancing its powers on its own and no one will attack my isle, it feels a bit to save.
But i want to maximise my diplomatiy, so what possibilities are in the game i dont see at the moment. In my Britan game and in the game at all.

Thanks.

Austria would be the nation to really expolit the diplo side of the game as a lot of their NI's are aimed at maintaining the HRE, vassals and Personal Unions.

Basically GB is a safer option as most nations will struggle to generate a navy big enough to assualt your position.

you can royal marriage into continental nations and try to push your dynasty on to thrones and then claim them. You can RM and ally smaller nations and try to vassalise and annex them. Once GB has some possessions on the continent or next to Spain,Portugal and France in the new world your troubles will really start.
