how to use 2.1.6 ?

How do i use 2.1.6 ? i've selected the beta in the steam menu and steam has reverted back the game to 2.1.6; however if I select play the game, the laucher appears, and if I click play the launcher disappears but nothing happens and the game doesn't launch. I see that there's something written next to beta 2.1.6 ('must be manually....') so I tried to use the executable directly from the CK2 folders but the same thing happens. What am I doing wrong ? what should I do ? (I'm on Linux if that matters)

Hi Yvanoff,

Please go to your steam games library and right click on Crusader Kings II, go to properties and select the BETAS tab. There you go to 2.1.6 in the dropdown menu. It will download the required game files and you'll be able to play the game with the 2.1.6. patch.

If that did not work, please verify the integrity of the game cache after you selected that beta.

* Go to your Steam games library
* Right click on "Crusader Kings II" and select "properties"
* Click on the tab "Local Files"
* Now click on "Verify integrity of game cache"
* Wait until this process is finished, if any files are missing/corrupted it will notify you at the end of the process and automatically start with re-downloading these files

I tried what you say:

sadly it didn't fix the problem: if I try to play CK2, the launcher does appear, but selecting 'play' does not launch the game.....

ok, I figured out what the problem is.
The charlemagne DLC, for a reason or another, prevents the 2.1.6 version of the gmae from lauching. Disabling it in the laucnher fixed the game.
it might be what 'must manually...' means: I'd bet the complete sentence is 'must manually disable charlemagne dlc', but it is cut by the steam interface (the sentence appears next to 2.1.6 in the panel to choose beta versions).

Yup you're required to disable CM manually as it is written after 2.1.6 and various ways it can interfere. Unfortunate though it didn't mention that fully in that window.
