I had the unbidden and while there attack to begin with was powerful. They just camp in a few systems and sent in a few fleets to one system and tried to build something.

So how can one aim to trigger the scourge I had them on my 1st game so I didn't have a clue what I was doing. But they had a proper fight in them.

Do not research jump drives (can trigger the Extradimensional Invaders with enough time), do not research Synthetics (can trigger the AI rebellion with enough time) and hope other empires also do not. That's what the game tries to tell you when it says those technologies are dangerous.

The Prethoryn Scourge will eventually invade if the other two crises do not appear before it.

Your PC buddy is using version 2.2. The consoles edition is using version 1.7. The AI rebellion is currently an endgame crisis, it will be replaced by the Contingency in 1.8.

Even if the other empires research dangerous techs the Prethoryn Scourge can happen, it's just less likely than other crises. Materialist empires tend to research synthetics while Spiritualist ones almost never do it.

Only players can trigger crisis events, doesn't matter if AI has jump drives or Synths as long as the player doesn't have them researched.

Just avoid Jump Drives and Synths, if you do research Synths give them immediate rights as to reduce the trigger for AI uprising. Then you should get the Prethoryns, they start weak but can snowball very quickly.

Other empires can trigger it too. The AI rebellion in particular even has special events describing how it's starting to spread from other empires into yours.
