What is the requirement to trigger this event to break their empire title like 4th crusade byz ?

Imperial decay?
demesne holding below some level ?
emperor without any actual land holding?

Realm size being under a certain amount; depends on title and whether SWMH is on or off. Does not apply to ERE. ERE only collapses when it loses Constantinople.

Seconded. A custom empire in a random world game i’m playing has literally three provinces and the guy is still running around pretending he’s my social equal.

I'd love imperial decay to play a stronger role in breaking up empires.

I think it would be interesting if an empire's imperial decay is higher than 80 or 90 the vassals can start a faction to dissolve the empire.
Or another independent ruler that has a claim to the title can use special cause beli to invade and dissolve the empire.
Or just like Emperor Francis II did, the ruler can dissolve the empire and get a new titular empire title according to his region/culture/religion. But the empire's vassals will be lost only those belonging to the capital's dejure kingdom title will remain(like how ERE fall the emperor will get a kingdom title).
