How to Support Independence?

I've seen this topic floating around occasionally but couldn't find them again. I meant support independence in respect to the following
A) Breaking free from PU relationship
B) Colonial nation breaking free from master

I've seen a number of posters make comments about supporting independence in wars as a valid CB etc but for the life of me I've never seen the function so how does it work?

You probably don't have the Conquest of Paradise expansion.

No I don't. I don't really care about Colonial nations per say but I saw numerous people talking about "supporting sweden's indepdence" and stuff like that? I thought supporting PU independence or joining a war of independence was aprt of the vanilla game?

Nope, the support independence mechanic is only available with CoP.
