Not sure if this causes some bugging, but go to your Victoria folder, open up scenarios -> save games and take the save file you want to edit (EUG file not CFG). Then just use ctrl+f to find the wars (they're in the very beginning of the file) and when you see the war you want to stop (watch for the attackers and defenders part to recognize the war) and delete it. Save and play.

Are you sure it's THE great war and not A great war? The concept of great war in Vicky is simply a war where a number of great powers are involved.

I can tell you 100% certain that there is no "The Great War" in vanilla Vicky, it's A great war because France and UK are involved. Why it happens in your game I have no idea.
Load up as any of France or Britain, open the cheat console by pressing F12, then type in the word 'neville' and press enter. Then negociate a white peace between them to end the war, save the game and restart as your previous nation.
