Your code doesn't seem to prevent the Lombards from conquering in AfricaI messed up the kingdoms part of the code above. This version should work hopefully.

No part of Catholic Europe is two sea zones away from the Holy Land.I think this is in order to have Crusades targeting the Holy land
I think its so France and Britanny can Holy War for Spain Actually. To try and help the Umayyads collapse.
I'd be concerned with North Africa but Historically the Italians did try to conquer Africa, mostly Sicily. They just werent very successful.
It occurred to me that it might also be for the sake of Denmark and Sweden, making their Baltic holy wars a little more convenient.I think its so France and Britanny can Holy War for Spain Actually. To try and help the Umayyads collapse.

Yeah! They convert culture and religion of the places too. It's ridiculous to see these things yet it always, always, always happens. I use console to give the land back sometimes and it'll help, but then I look back and Africa is blue or purple again. If the thing about them being able to holy war farther away is true, it's ridiculous. I want this to stop and I can't believe Paradox haven't noticed the issue before
But Crusades are their own CB (Great Holy War) and not a regular holy war. I think only the pope should be able to call for crusades accross the sea and the regular Holy War CB should be limited to bordering provinces - as it was pre-Conclave, wasn't it?
Italy makes a bit more sense in this regard.

Yup. Thanks for correctiing me.No part of Catholic Europe is two sea zones away from the Holy Land.
that's because Libya is an extreme case of what I mentioned earlier. It doesn't even have a single inland province despite having quite important centers in the Fezzan, which was used to retreat and regroup for counter attack, which has always come.True, but Africa quickly turning into Italian/Lombard culture is not but I guess that's just game mechanics.
Also in history in earlier start dates most of the time usually the Muslims were the attackers, like Aghlabids taking Sicily and so on. Currently it's impossible for AI so I wish it was more 50-50.
It happens in later dates as well (though in 1066, they will often take a detour to eat up the minor Spanish states as well). Blocking France (e.g. by taking Toulouse to cut off their sea access) just means one of the Italian republics takes it instead.
No, the same rule applied pre-Conclave as well. Muslims are speshul. And as-is, only heads of religion can call for crusades/jihads/GHWs anyway (though Catholic secular rulers can ask for them). But Crusades are their own CB (Great Holy War) and not a regular holy war.
