How can I avoid getting nuked in later years using patch 1.08? In former patches the AI won't nuke you, which I really liked. I've never played a game in the late years with 1.08. I've little experience with 1.08, cause I played only one game with Germany, which I didn't continue after defeating the Soviets in late 1941. I've read that other players got nuked. How can I avoid that? I know that I can try to win the game before 1944, but that's not what I want to do. I want to play a 1944 German game trying to survive and a 36 USSR game without cheating attacks against Germany while they are weak or in France and after winning a hard WW II I want a WW III against the US/UK.

If you manged to defeat USSR in 41 you should have invaded the US-mainland preventing them using the bomb in Europe.

You can ensure that no enemy air base is within strategic bombing range of provinces that you dont want to get nuked. You could try continuous CAP. If the AI USA is a democracy & has nukes, then it might not use them unless it considers that it is losing the war (seems to require an amount of desperation, although that might not be true against JAP). Once ICBM's & small nukes come along, location of air bases doesnt count for anything. The AI likes to nuke provinces containing a large number of divisions close to an (active?) front, so you can set things up to encourage them to nuke a province that you dont mind being hit. The AI USA is happy to use a nuke about every 6 months. You can espionage and try to slow their research or try nuke sabotage (I havent tried that one). You can nuke or bomb their reactor site, but this is only a temporary reprieve, they will quickly rebuild it. The AoD vanilla AI USA either doesn't build ICBM's or is very slow to get around to it. Most (possibly all?) of my experience on the receiving end of nukes comes from AoD 1.08 TRM.

Short of invading the USA (which I think you wish to avoid) the best way I found so far to REDUCE how much one can be nuked is to use spies to do nuke sabotage. Playing a game as UK where the belligerent Allies kicked out the USA and then DOWed USA, I destroyed nukes regularly using spies. If I remember right, when my very many spies had zero chance of nuke sabotage that meant USA was temporarily out of nukes. But somewhere I let down my guard and when I invaded USA, Canada was nuked 6x so consuming the USA's stockpile until reactor captured.

I have never tried interceptors to catch their nuke bombers and would instead try conquest of enemy airbases to get more of your country out-of-range.

If USA gets inter-continental missile, then I thinks spies might be the only counter option short of invasion.

Alternately, I always thought it might be fun to have a nuclear war. No need to bother with invading the distant enemy. Just see if possible to out-nuke them! It would be challenging!

I should have clarified I was also discussing 1.08. Yes, slowing their ability to build nukes is a very good 1st option. Then spies destroying the stockpile really works amazingly well if enough spies. I can't remember for sure, but it may have been 20 spies which builds up fast enough once over 10.

Finally, planning how to get nuked in the least damaging way is a good one as eventually a nuke probably will get thru since ICBMs will be there eventually. Fortunately, I have zero experience (on any game version) of ever having had my country nuked! But those 6 nukes sure destroyed the Canadian army! :D

It is also possible to bomb the nuke reactor to reduce their abilty to produce nukes. 1944 ballistic missiles are good for that task of you can use them within range. But one has to bomb in relative rapid sucession to undo the done repairing. Nuking the reactor however does permanent damage to the reactor.

The best solution is to conquer USA or anyone who builds and uses nukes. Short of this bombing the reactor is your second best option. Once the enemy has nukes all of this does little good as it only has effect on producing new nukes. Reducing enemies nukes is best done via espionage. It costs a lot but it would seem to be worth the effort due to the even more expensive alternative.

It might be reasonable to have a very close look at when exactly new nukes are produced, trying to foresee when new ones will be available to the enemy. Once the last nuke has be rendered useless via espionage there is time window of a few month in which an invasion of USA in lets say 1947 must start and finish sucessfully. This might be a quite intersssting challange. Way better it is still to simply take USA out of the game in 1944 or before.
