I was browsing /vst/ the other day and I saw a complaint about how Holland was locked behind a paywall as you needed a DLC (Conquest of Paradise/El Dorado) to be able to ask for independence and beat Burgundy with much stronger war allies. Wondering if that was indeed correct, I played as Holland and attempted to see if I can beat Burgundy, and in fact I couldn't. I tried waiting for Burgundy to in ruins by any war they wage, only for nothing to happen except having my army destroyed by the war enemies of Burgundy.
-Anytime they were at war with Austria, Austria would just white peace them.
-France never declared any war and often times when the Burgundian Succession happens, I get annexed.
-I can't declare war when they are at war.
-Even with full mercs and armies, my butt got kicked by Burgundy and its war allies.
So what am I supposed to do exactly? Is it possible to play as an independent Holland with slight luck on your side or not? Does anybody have a guide on what to exactly do?

There are much harder vassal starts available in 1444 which are entirely possible without support, even on very hard. Don't be afraid to loan up and go over force limit. Hell, as Holland you can go bankrupt after the war without any repercussions. Dev after declaring independence since it's much cheaper.

Not at all. Burgundy out of all nations is set up to self destruct anyway. The easiest way is to wait until they get involved in a war versus France or the HRE emperor and declare war once their main armies get destroyed.

Unless you literally become independent for free before that.
