Awesome. And what should my slavery policy be? Regulated?
Regulated reduces the unhappiness of slaves, but also reduces their output. IE makes less faction, but also less resource.

In the end, it's your call.

I'd rather not deal with the factions lol.

Seems like managing the factions is hard. Can you build happiness buildings to improve situations?

yeah. Honestly factions are currently (Until Utopia update) the easiest and blandest things to deal with. you just suppress and forget. Eventually they go away.

I enslave entire races and planets. I specialize them as mineral planets. I normally don't care what the bonus resource is. My own race has specialized energy and science planets.

I'm excited for the changes but it's still a month away sadly. So my own POPs don't get a happiness penalty to being enslaved? So how do I balance production of all resources? Because slavery is empire wide and the unhappiness modifier is on all planets I control, how do I deal with that?

Your own pops, (as long as they're authoritarian) won't get unhappiness from enslaving other pops (of any species, including your own). Your own pops, as slaves, (if they're authoritarian) won't get a massive unhappiness debuff, but their happiness doesn't really matter either. if you enslave aliens, either enslave all of them, on the planet, or start shunting them around.

I just like making the bonus building the most efficient. It seems to really work out well...but I don't know if it's actually better.
Probably is, in the end, I just like seeing all of my buildings respecting tile resources.

Before I start, is Slavery even a viable option right now to play?
Yes and no.
It is viable from a numbers perspective.

The big issues are sectors and the sector AI. It tends to enslave the whole planet, especially Xenos. So you might want to enslave manually before handing it to a sector without Slavery settings. 1.5 will finally fix that via Caste Systems.

1. What is the difference between Alien slavery tolerance and slavery tolerance? I think I know, but I just want to clarify my understanding.

2. What strategies are there for playing a slaver nation? Which POPs do you enslave? Do you enslave your own or anyone who isn't your species?

3. How do you deal with rising factions? Is there a way to keep them from rebelling at all or even dissolving completely?

That's really it. Just general tips on playing a slaver empire will help me out! It's what I want to try in a new game with an extra friend :D
1. Slavery and Purge are a Collectivist thing. Xenophobia allows you to apply collectivist actions, onto Alien (non-Primary species) pops.
Note that both Ethoi give access to other bonus and technology options.

2. Enslave everyone on Food and Mineral Tiles. Ideally ones with bonus. In particular ones wich are unhappy.

3. You solve Factions by forcing the unhappy guys into the slave factions. Just supress Malcontent Slaves (caps at 2 Influence/Faction) and force everyone unhappy into that Faction. Emancipation and Docile slaves Factions past 50% are ideal helpers here, as they radicalise. Docile slaves on low power however tend to cause production penalties instead.

Ah #3 is a really useful tip, thank you!!

Your own pops, (as long as they're authoritarian) won't get unhappiness from enslaving other pops (of any species, including your own). When you say authoritarian, which government form do you mean? Fanatic Collectivist + Xenophobe only allows for Despotic Government.

Ah okay, so the problem isn't with enslaving my own species (because I'll be Fanatic Collectivist), it's when I start enslaving alien species that because I'm only Xenophobe, they only have a 50% tolerance to it. So they get a little unhappy, right? But that can be solved with buildings and edicts and if they join factions, suppressing them.

Should I do anything with the Docile Slaves faction?

no, the aliens will be upset as long as they are not authoritarian. Xenophobe gives your pops a greater tolerance to enslaving aliens. Which means your unenslaved pops won't get unhappy that you're enslaving aliens. Mind you, they already didn't care, since they were authoritarian, but hey.

no, the aliens will be upset as long as they are not authoritarian. Xenophobe gives your pops a greater tolerance to enslaving aliens. Which means your unenslaved pops won't get unhappy that you're enslaving aliens. Mind you, they already didn't care, since they were authoritarian, but hey.
Okay and this is where genetic modification can come in, I assume. So what's the best strategy when dealing with alien pops and slavery?

enslave 'em all, and then resettle them across your worlds so that they don't occupy non-mineral/non-food tiles. Either that or get your purgin' shoes on.

Hahaha I like that (is it wrong I'm laughing at the thought of enslaving an entire alien race?)!

My planned empire is here - https://kaisersly.github.io/stellaris_race_maker/?version=1&name=""&ethoses=0,5&government=4&traits=2,3,14,21
But should I go Fanatic Xenophobe instead of Fanatic Collectivist? Also, why enslave first before resettling? Is there an order to things?
