Before I start, is Slavery even a viable option right now to play?

Now that that's over with, let's get on with the meat of this thread.

I started playing with a friend a few days ago and to start, I tried a slaver empire. I enslaved my own POPs and alien POPs and I ended up dealing with a bunch of factions and losing a planet. I didn't know what I was doing and so we started over.

So now I've had some time to play and I just want to ask a few questions related to playing a slaver empire.

1. What is the difference between Alien slavery tolerance and slavery tolerance? I think I know, but I just want to clarify my understanding.

2. What strategies are there for playing a slaver nation? Which POPs do you enslave? Do you enslave your own or anyone who isn't your species?

3. How do you deal with rising factions? Is there a way to keep them from rebelling at all or even dissolving completely?

That's really it. Just general tips on playing a slaver empire will help me out! It's what I want to try in a new game with an extra friend :D

1. Slavery Tolerance is your pop's acceptance of having slaves in general. Alien slavery tolerance is your pop's acceptance of having alien slaves specifically.

2. Enslave anything on a food or mineral tile. ANYTHING. Also, anyone that isn't happy with your regime, enslave 'em and pop 'em onto a mine or farm, or capital building.

3.Go to the factions tab. Click "suppress". Problem solved. Also, having the regulated slavery policy active, rather than unregulated slavery is slightly better in terms of not causing factions.

Suppressing costs influence per month though. That's a problem I ran into. I had 0 influence/mo and 0 influence total.

There is an alternative to faction supression - having armies produced on every planet with slaves. So when rebellion hits on 30 planets it is just defeated everywhere by far stronger army. It is actually useful in other ways like defending vs invasions.

Yeah I know. It's just hard if the tech doesn't come up. I don't think I had it come up when I played. I've had it come up this new game, but not when I was playing Slavers.

If you don't enslave the POPs until you can afford it, is that an option too?
it's always an option, just not necessarily an optimal one. Do you build frontier outposts early on btw?

Btw right now faction suppression costs the same regardless of faction size which will be fixed in the future hopefully. Spending little influence to supress 1000 pops seems ridiculous. Then having loyal armies everywhere could become even more useful. Thought I'd if some factions would have possible rebellion that makes part of the planetary army rebel as well (up to majority of it).

But how do you deal with the rising factions? Suppress them down? Is there a way to dissolve the slave factions?
You can't dissolve factions, you can only suppress them. meaning you need to keep your influence decent. Also, factions have demands, if they want something that is easy to fulfill/you are willing to fulfill, then that makes them happier.

Ah. So can you offer just some general tips?

You said enslave everyone and use influence to suppress factions. Is that really it? Can you eventually build up more influence to counter the lost monthly influence?

Enslave everyone on food and mineral tiles. There's no sense in enslaving science or energy pops, that just makes them have no output. You'll get influence tech as the game progresses. It's actually fairly common, and there are like 4 levels of it.

Okay awesome. And in wars, if I take over planets with different species, do I purge or just enslave on mineral and food tiles?

I only suppress whoever is a threat at the time.
That's a good idea :D
