Hello

I am new but loving this and have many questions.

I have been working for a king for some time now and gained honor and fame for myself and my country but have yet to be offered a town or castle to govern over.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I think the best thing would be to carry on as you do. Fight bandits and your liege's enemies as often as you can, and sooner or later you will be granted a fief. Joining tournaments is also good for your renown. I'm not sure how much your liege's own opinion matters when it comes to granting fiefs, but you could make some quests for him to be on the safe side. Finally, if you take an enemy castle all on your own (which is quite difficult), you will have greater chances to be granted this castle as a fief.

Are you a vassal of a kingdom? If you've only accepted the quest to become a mercenary then you'll not be awarded any feifs, you must swear an oath to the faction King (dialogue option).

After that, gaining high renown and (very importantly) high relations with the King is important. If the King likes you he will be more likely to grant you lands.

After that, when a new town or castle is taken, the King will decide who to give it to. You can influence this by trying to get Lords to support your application for ownership (dialogue option), and if you led the siege you can also directly request it as a trophy.

Eventually, if your faction is successful in war, you will be granted lands and eventually you'll get a castle or a town. It is quite rare to be handed a town though.

I find it to be easy enough, just make sure you have some good relation and right after the capture speak to all the Lord that took part in it and try to convince them to change their vote to who the fief should go to yourself. (Don't forgot to do so with the king also, since his vote got an heavier weight then Lord)

But how hard the vote will be to change depend on who people vote for and reason of that vote, you current fief and current relation with Lord your convincing.

Actually I was a merc and was given a castle and two villages. If I didn't renew the contract they were taken away from me, but if, at that point, I swore vassalage they were mine to keep.

I donno if that was a bug or not, but I had been doing a lot of quests for different lords, won a few tourneys, and swept clear a number of bandit hideouts. When I got the castle I had asked one lord who he was sponsoring for it and he said he was sponsoring me.
