I downloaded it and try to use the OP file with Paint.NET with a plugin but alas it doesn't work. Does anyone have any suggestion which program may open it?This was done in Paint.NET (which is free) with the Circle Text and 1px Expansion tools from dpy's Plugin Pack. (Also, the PSD Plugin can be used to open takedown47's Photoshop template.)
Download it as: .PDN (Paint.NET) | .PSD (Photoshop)
I hope it will be! I made some fancy maps with this guide and I know nothing about graphic editors.

People have been requesting I do a tutorial and show them how to make a nice AAR quality map. I have included a file below which contains instructions, a template you can use and a nice map font called Romeodn. Please note you will need some sort of image editing program like photoshop. I use Photoshop Elements 2.0 which was released in 2002 so you don't need super expensive programs like CS6.

Hope this helps.
P.S To the moderators I wasn't sure where this thread should go so if you want to move to somewhere else that's fine.
Awesome, it's great that this tutorial is going to be continued Thanks!Hello,
Thanks Takedown for this fantastic tutorial, and for everyone else who contributed. I used your approach and tweaked it for maps in my latest AAR, and am writing up a tutorial for how to create similar ones with the new map expansion. I plan to give you folks a big acknowledgement up front for the inspiration to create maps from the F10 saves. here is one I am working on for the tutorial:

Thanks again,
Venerate Saint Markos - blessed be His name - and House Angelos, Protector of the Imperium!I certainly don't intend to let the descendants of Saint Markos down.

Paint.NET is free, and there is a plugin for it that opens Photoshop .psd files. It doesn't have the same set of tools as Photoshop of course, but with a little experimentation, you can do reasonably well with it.
So, umm. I don't have any Adobe program, all I have is Paint.NET. Can someone tell me how to do curved text in there.
