Hi

Is there a way to make my king NOT go to war?
I have high crown authority so I can choose the commanders of my army, but my silly king still joins the campaign leading his own levy.
And gets himself maimed, of course.
How can I make him stay at home?

Make him the commander of a flank, then have him resign the command (not be replaced - resign completely, then pick a new commander). Works for me.

Select the army he's attached to, have it move to a province, then select someone else from the commander slot he's occupying. When all three slots are taken up by other characters, then your king will return to your capital.

What if you're a vassal of the HRE? Is there a way to make your King stay at home?

I have the same problem as the king of Wallachia!!!

Seriously! What's wrong with Biz Emperor ?! My king got captured by a greek faction the emperor was fighting... He lost his eyes... his martial skill is 0... but still, the emperor is summoning him even in peace times to fight minor revolts !!!

I mean, being the vassal of the Emperor doesn't mean he can summon me, whenever he likes, any time of the year!!!

Once, the Emperor put my character on the head of very small stack running in the middle of Fatimid provinces!

How to interpret that other than he wants to get rid of a strong (but loyal) vassal ?!!!

The only way to save my character is to make him leader in an army beseiging somewhere safe! I even left my character once beseiging another vassal in an outnumbered stack... so that enemies don't surrender!

WHAT??? Stay home from war? What the hell kind of king is that!

Put him at the head of the army and CHARGE!!!!!!

The kind that has his own agenda! Why should he die while fighting others' wars ?!

Plus, when playing in the biz empire, your character's balls are at stake! If you want him to keep them, he needs to stay at home!

Rebel against the Emperor then. He's clearly an inconsiderate fool.

Everytime my king is in an army I don't want him to be, I raise another small host somewhere and make him the commander of it. So he is not longer in the army I doesn't want him to be. Usually I dissolve the newly raised host then, so he goes back home.

But after having "don't go to war"-buttons for the chancelors, I think paradox should give us something similar for the ruler.

It really annoys me as well that my ruler can be used nilly willy on the AI's arbitrary decision.

I like playing as a heathen norse and often I focus on a strong warlordesque type of character with good martial education.

It just annoys me that my christian norwegian king continiously uses my brilliant martial ruler (who despises the king and is despised by him) as his defacto general and uses him to crush his rebellions and consolidate his power.

It got so bad I just decided to rally my troops and attach my own armies to the kings armies and help him regardless of wether it was beneficial for me in the long run. Atleast I got some extra prestige from battles and the odd prisoner I could ransom. If I lead the troops but dont provide any soldiers myself, I don't get any prisoners...better make sure I get some cash out of it.

I'm calling Gamey tactics here. A king should be on the front lines fighting alongside his people!

[edit] I see somebody beat me to this objection. "Man up ladies! and can somebody catch a god-damn ball!"

I want my king to lead my battle like when I'm claiming a county or looking to get the crusader trait and some prestige...but my liege doesn't want to let go of me!

I wanna fight in battles initiated by me too.

A vassal has several obligations to his liege, one of which was to lead his levies if he requested it.

In the mod I'm play-testing, the king of my custom realm is more of a schemer than a general. It's my queen who runs the army, with the marshal as her second in command. I simply roleplay the king being with the army with his function raising morale and keeping some potentially huge egos in check.

Interesting thread... I have been playing as England so much I had forgotten what it is like to play as a vassal (perhaps the memories of playing as a count in CK1 and never having access to my own forces because the King was always fighting something still haunts me)...

This could even make a nice event line; your liege summons you for military service, do lead your troops, send your troops with the Marshal, send them with a random courtier or even refuse to send them. All options have impacts to your relationships with your liege and vassals... If you agree to go you (or whoever you send) can not be recalled for a certain period of time (say a month)...

I just raise a local levy, then have him command it, & leave him there. Hardly costs anything & can see out a war if need be. Mind you there are occasions when I would like him to go to war, like if he is completely useless, but always find that those leaders always survive any battles.
