So I played this game as Ireland, and I married my heir to the heiress of Norway in my first really successful political marriage game. When they had a son, he started out as an Irish boy called Seán, but the mother gave them over to a Polish courtier for education who changes his culture so now my king rules as Jan III of Ireland. Well okay, I can cope with that for one generation, but I would like to flip back eventually!!

King Jan recently had two son, a bright little kid called Msciwoj and a dwarf called Jan. They are going to turn old enough for tutoring soon. What tutors do you guys recommend to turn them back into a proper Irishman? Will it be guaranteed that they switch cultures or is this up to the dice rolls?

Hmm alright I found this event in guardian_events.txt:
Code:
# Child is influenced by the culture of his or her guardian
character_event = {
	id = 38110
	desc = "EVTDESC38110"
	picture = "GFX_evt_guardian"

	max_age = 15

	trigger = {
		has_guardian = yes
		guardian = {
			NOT = { culture = ROOT}
		}
	}

	mean_time_to_happen = {
		months = 120
		modifier = {
			factor = 0.5
			guardian = {
				trait = diligent
			}
		}
		modifier = {
			factor = 0.5
			guardian = {
				trait = gregarious
			}
		}
		modifier = {
			factor = 2.0
			guardian = {
				trait = shy
			}
		}
		modifier = {
			factor = 2.0
			guardian = {
				trait = slothful
			}
		}
	}

	option = {
		name = "EVTOPTA38110"
		ai_chance = { factor = 100}
		guardian = {
			reverse_culture = ROOT
			hidden_tooltip = {
				character_event = {
					id = 38111
				}
			}
		}
	}
	option = {
		name = "EVTOPTB38100" # Go play with my friends
		ai_chance = { factor = 0}
	}
}

Seems like MTTH is 10 years but if the guardian is diligent+gregarious, it's only 2.5 years... i.e. during a 9 year tutoring period (age 7-16) the kid would have a... 3:1 chance of getting converted ???

Seems like these two traits are what I should look out for then!

(Also DAMN I didn't think I would misspell thread titles too, I thought I was smart and all ... :wacko:)

Gregarious and Diligent increase the chance of cultural conversion, Shy and Slothful decrease it.
So in your case you need to find a Gregarious and/or Diligent Irishman that isn't Shy/Slothful.
If you find someone who is both Gregarious and Diligent it very likely that the kid will convert within a few years.

There is also an event that offers your ruler the chance to convert to the culture of the county that has the capital city.
So if it is not send it back to Irland for a generation.

Phew! Managed to convert the young boy. A diligent + gregarious Irish guardian did it in 1 year. Just on time, because the guardian died half a year later :eek:o

Now to edit the save game and change his first name too... (should've thought earlier of giving the kids names that have an irish AND a polish version! no idea what "Msciwoj" means :p )
