How to make Ming Catolic?

I have searched an searched for an answer on this board now, and haven't found an answer yet, so I try to start a new thread.

The question is simpel: How do you convert a non-catholic nation to be Catholic?

A bit background history:
I'm atm. trying to get Ming into the HRE .. I have inherted Manchu, Oirat Horde and Japan.
The year is 1536, and I have settled whit a few provinces in Europe, got a few vassels, and have gone all the way in westernize Ming(is atm. in Latin Tech grp whit Muslim units).

Goal:
My goal is to form the HRE ... As Ming! Or, maybe go for Prussia first, I couldn't vassel them last so I chanced them to TO(dunno if it will help keeping them that way or they will chance to Prussia again later).

Problem:
Is to find a way to convert to Catholicism.
I have tried waiting for catholic rebels but its always nationalist rebels I see all the time.
I got 1 core in Europe atm. and could move my capital there if I release some vassels in Asia, but will drain my manpower + economy and it will take some time to diplo annex the vassels again.


Dunno if this is even possible, but any help is more then welcome.

make a land bridge to Europe, shouldn't be to hard with Ming's manpower, and as above, use religious rebels

Only way I know how is a bit difficult. Some would say it's gamey, but the cost is so f-ing huge, I doubt anyone would say you're being exploitive. You basically become a One Province Minor in a catholic province and arrange for bankruptcy.

You're essentially starting the game over again, with some distinct disadvantages. If you plan it ahead of time, though, I'd wager you can do okay. I took advantage of a naturally occuring opportunity to change Venice to pagan, and it wasn't pretty. But you'd be moving up and would likely still be on a par with your neighbors, so maybe it'd be okay.

And I heard also several times that's the only way to convert as a country non-christian, and wut's more, I did tried with Kongo, the religious rebels won't work with themselves

RobRoy3's way is the only one that works without cheating or modding. Surrendering to zealot rebels only works within your religious group. So you can turn Ming Hindu or Shinto that way but not Catholic or Sunni.

i modded that you can surrender to any religious rebels , happened in real life that people ruled countries of a different faith

By typing a certain event into the consol.

I think it must be something like 2001 or 3001, but you better look that up in the eu3 wiki.
I don't think there is a plausible "non cheating" way. You can become an OPM and then collapse to religious rebels but that is ridiculous with Ming.

I have just tried the Religious Rebels, and no, it don't work.

And to drop down to a One Provinces nations is .. well, will be VERY difficult to get up from there.
A backrup will mean all my money(around 10k) gone + the most of my 200k army ... but okay, I think I will save my game and try it out anyway... Who knows how it will end up in the end.

It will not work....
There is a small problem: You cant diplo-annex nations outside your own Religious Group.
So: If I split Ming up in vassels, and only leave 1 catholic province left in Europe and then go bankrupt and convert, then I will not be able to diplo-annex my vassels and get my nations back.

*sigh* I think I will go and make it so you can surrender to Religious Rebels, will help a lot in this case, and as sprites point out: It happened in real life...
Just sad I couldn't find a way around it whit out needing to chance the game. :S

And I took the idea from there.
It is a VERY nice challenge, and take a hell of lot of management to keep the stability up for all the westernize reforms etc.

I don't know if this is possible or not, but can you just get in a war with a Catholic power, then "Sue for Peace", then "Offer Tribute", then "Force Religion"?

Force Religion only work if you are in the same Religion Group ... so no, it wouldn't work (I have just tested it just to be sure).

Well, far be it for me to suggest to you how you should play your game, but...I'm not aware of any real life examples of crossing over into different religious groups, especially if we are talking about large successful realms. Small, bankrupt realms, however...perhaps.

And, even if it's not an intentional feature, the cost/difficulty to do something so extreme seems about right. I really do think of it as starting over and, frankly, you shouldn't even be able to keep your vassals, much less easily annex them, IMHO. Isn't the fact that you still have tons of cores sufficient advantage? I've got a save of my pagan Venice game and plan to try it again, sometime, since it was quite challenging and entertaining, dramatically extending the life of a game that was becoming boring.

Xnaop, suing for peace has never allowed me to offer conversion, even within the same religious group. Let me know if you've found a way to make it work, though.

If you want you could use my save game. I conquered all the way to sweden and westernized the year is around 1650-1700. China is still Confucious though.

no , the OPM is a requirement...
at the start of HTTT there was a topic of gena turned muslim with several province through a pretender , but in your case collapsing would be harsh as well , as getting a pretender in your catholic provinces and not zealots or nationalists

An AAR I would be truly impressed to see:

• Ming;
• formed into the united Holy Roman Empire;
• in Rome, Jerusalem, and Mecca;
• and only Rome, Jerusalem, and Mecca;
• with both the nation and all three provinces Shinto.
