How to make game run faster

I have Gigabyte U2442N it runs pretty decently most of the games I play, but lately CK2 runs very badly, especially after the new expansion. Fastest speed or quick zooming drops framerate under 10 - when paused I have constant 60fps, but on fastest speed the game is unbearable, I don't remember game running this bad a year ago. Laptop runs other games great and re-installed windows 2 months ago, so the problem is with the game.

I already disabled trees rendering, is there other things I can do to make game smoother? I would really appreciate the help, because I am scared that EU4 will run even worse because it's a much larger map.

Open up C:\Users\[UserName]\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\settings.txt (or something like that) and go through and change the settings to lower quality. Especially set low_res_textures=yes.

When you zoom out, there are cloud and wind effects. Turning that off disables that.

Note that if you change draw_rivers=yes to no, it will make it so you can't see any of the rivers in-game which can make navigating armies in wartime pretty annoying as you'll need to check each province individually for river presence.

Lower resolutions help with performance, as well.

do this first, before anything else. for some reason the trees kill performance, and honestly dont add hardly any flair to the art style anyway.

you cna only do it through the settings file i think, so google how to do it.
