How to join a crusade?!

Am sorry because this has most likely been asked before but i have tried clicking on the flag and seeing if i can join from the pope but no hope. I really want him to stop hating me from not being in the Crusade.

You need to declare war on the crusade target and actually move there with an army and your ruler as a commander, I believe.

there is even an option to delcare crusade not just holy war
