You are the Emperor of Britany and want to invade France but don't know why ?
I'll tell you how to do it.
1.Invite a claimant of France to your court. ( strong claim is prefered )
2.Grant him a county and a small kingdom ( like wales, even better if you grant him a viceroy title, this way he doesn't become too powerful )
3.Press his claim on the kingdom of france. ( you can press his claim right away if he has strong claim )

win the war, now the king of france is you vassal.

2.Grant him a county and a small kingdom ( like wales, even better if you grant him a viceroy title, this way he doesn't become too powerful )

It´s enough to give him a Barony. And.. it does not even need to be a castle. So invite a younger Karling brother, give him a coastal city, press his claim and you have a giant vassal Merchant republic led by a Charlemagne descandent. Give him a church and in next generation you have a lowborn priest- king.

Congrats, you found the oldest and gamiest way to paint the map!

This is true, Gamey deluxe!

"The right way" is probably only pressing you own or your childrens claims :) Breeding Bastards with the right claims is easy, Pressing their claims, after landed them a bishopery and pressing their ducal claims, then funding or via antipope- route making them pope is very fun :) I once had 6 bastard sons top Cardinals holding ducal tier titles. They all were in their 20th and was the Catholic elite for many years to come! :)

Really ? I've always thought that if you want to press a kingdom claim you must grant him a kingdom title, and to press a ducal claim you need to grand a duke title ?

only for inheritance. vassals must be same or higher rank to stay in your realm when they inherit an external title.

pressing claims is different. the claimant will be your vassal if he is already a vassal when you press the claim or if he is of your dynasty or if the target title is dejure part of your realm. target title must be lower rank than your primary of course, otherwise they can't be your vassal.

1.Invite a claimant of France to your court. ( strong claim is prefered )

For those who don't know, there is "the" claimant of France (both West and Middle Francia) in 769 starting point in county Eu. He is the last Merovingian heir and is a monk. You can invite him with by gifting ducats and then buying favor, and de-monk him by giving him a temple.

The fault lies in the game, not the gamer. If the game models reality adequately then there is no gamieness. In this case it is obviously intended.

The problem is that claims are generated far too promiscuously. In reality being the younger brother of an heir gave you squat. Claims should be generated only in response to events that disturb the normal order of inheritance, such as conquests, revocations and changes to the law in succession. Someone who lost a title or heirship as a result should get a claim which is permanent and hereditary according to the succession rules in effect immediately before the relevant event.

Gamiest thing in the world. Invite him as Byz emperor, matrimarry to your nearly adult daughter, land him with any de jure claim war you win, then press for the kingdom.

Like 25% of your Rome restored achievement right there. 50% once you claim the other brother's.
